I seriously think the fact that we now have a bunch of heavies all about 6'4 who box with stamina, endurance and an ability to land power shots means we are in one of the better "head to head" eras of all time.

Unfortunately, there are no American heavies carrying the flag which is why the division is looked down upon..

We saw Lennox Lewis dominate the division when he was a tall fighter with a great jab and good overhand right. I think this division simply has more of those fighters and these days, not many (if any) fighters beneath 6'2 even exist in the top 10 ratings of Ring.

    Champ: Wlad 6'7
    1: Vitali 6'8
    2: Haye 6'4
    3: Povetkin 6'2
    4: Adamek 6'2
    5: Chambers 6'1
    6: Chagaev 6'1
    7: Boytsov 6'1
    8: Valuev 7'1
    9: Dimentreko 6'7
    10: Arreola, 6'4

I don't think anyone doubts that Wlad and Vitali beat everyone in the division, do they?
Size matters, especially when combined with talent and technique.

We've got an abundance of tall fighters this era who can all box.

Not only is the 90s Heavyweight scene better than today's Heavyweight scene but with all due deference to the Klitschho's who are the elite fighters of today; the 80s are also better.

    And the 70s.

Today's scene is dismal and it has nothing to do with the Eastern European fighters.

In fact, the Iron curtain fallen sooner some of the Eastern Euro's would have been top contenders or title holders but the 90s would have still been defined by Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe and Lewis.

As for the Tyson comment, this is what happens when people don't know boxing. Boxing is subjective but stupidity isn't.

    Vitali's 6'7, Wlad is 6'6 1/2, Haye is 6'3, you don't work for the WWE do you?

I'm just nitpicking, the 90's weren't exactly small either.

    90's HW's:

    Bowe 6'5
    Lewis 6'5
    Golota 6'4
    Holyfield 6'2 1/2
    Ibeabuchi 6'2
    Ruddock 6'3
    Morrison 6'2
    Foreman 6'4
    Mercer 6'1
    Moorer 6'2
    Briggs 6'4

    Add to the 90's

    Bruno
    McCall
Golota (not awesome, but still competing when waaaay past his best in the 00's. Probably should have had at least 1 win against Byrd or Ruiz.
    Rahman
    Sanders

The biggest difference in my eyes, is the only guys that compete at anywhere near the top level at an advanced age in the 90's were guys like Holmes and Foreman.

Wheras these days, guys like Rahman, Maskaev, Briggs etc are as competitive, or MORE competitive than when they were actually in their prime.

For anyone to compare the current state to any era knows nothing about boxing. if you have any doubt read the main website's interview with Manny Stewert. In it he says this is by far the weakest the heavies have been and when asked if Wklit is an ATG he said NO in the nicest way possible. This has nothing to do with America vs Europe it has to do with talent and skill (not size). The only ones that would stand a chance in any earlier era is the Kbros, and they would only be contenders. People (THEIR FANS) think because they are cleaning out this Crap called the Heavyweight division that they are boxing gods . . . but the truth is that they are above average fighter in a below average division . . . wake up!

the guy seems to have a point about the iron curtain but i can't name eastern euros who got shut out of the game as a result. it's not like they were utterly dominating the olympics or anything.

I have close to 50 posters on my ignore list. lzolnier has been a border line case for a long time. After reading those statements I doubt if he'll be a border line case much longer. And just for the sake of clarification, I am not now, nor have I ever been, a Tyson fan.

Boo I had a dig at you before over how 'harsh' you were to some guys with your views pre Pavlik-Martinez, hell I even ribbed you a bit. But you're straight up, stick by your guy and I can respect that, ignore list wasn't an option.

This cretin however is just dumb, or on the wind-up, regardless I added him to my list tonight.

Who you picking for this weekend btw?

The Klitschkos would be contenders/beltholders/champs and tough matchups in most (or all) HW eras, but the rest of the division as a whole is poor.
