I don't think we have done this one before. Jack Dempsey, in his prime, vs. Wladimir Klitschko, in his prime. 12 rounds. Who's your money on?

this is probably the first time i say a klitschko wins this matchup, jack dempsey is one tough cookie yes, but i dont think hes ever quite faced a tall HW with a established jab and huge right hand like wlad. i chose wlad by late tko, but if dempsey can take the timid giant out of his comfort zone then he takes it.

Dempsey in his prime, annhilated large men as Carl Morris,Fred Fulton,Jess Willard...We today have never seen films of the prime Dempsey...He kod many giants in the first round, and loved the big and slower heavyweights. Jack at his peak was described as fast as a welterweight, with explosive power...
Dempsey by Ko in two rounds...

    Burt,

Morris, Fulton, and Old Willard don't even come close to comparing to wladimir klitschko. Not even close. Dempsey never beat a man with the size, skill, and power of Wlad. . Wlad was not some slow big heavyweight. He is a fast technical big heavyweight. That said, I like Dempsey in this matchup

    I think I said Dempsey every-time before.

I'm wising up. Wlad is the favorite. Dempsey can get in but can he finish Wlad? Under modern rules, it will be more difficult than most project. And it's not like it will be a 1 punch KO. Dempsey has to win a sustained attack, and against a man with the power of Wlad that's tough. Dempsey is iron-willed, but not iron-chinned. Wlad has a weak chin, but Dempsey will deteriorate too. I think that Dempsey is far tougher, and has much superior stamina. I think Wlad is a 5:4 type favorite. It's tough to say but I think he should be favored. Maybe I'm just trying to go against the grain in this one.

Vlad has some excellent tools at this stage of his career and one of the best jabs I have seen at heavyweight. Also Vlad is one of the best big men I have seen. Dempsey was relentless and always dangerous. Dempsey can get that one big turn-around punch that would take Vlad out but Vlad has more tools than any of the big men Dempsey ever faced, Not sure if it goes 12 and I can see it go either way

Where is the analogous fighter today who goes 190 and beats the super-heavies? Plus, Dempsey was **** in a lot of the fights that supposedly occurred during his prime.

    Wlad stops him within 6.

Wlad better have kept Dempsey from getting inside because if Dempsey touches that chin Wlad is gone. However, Wlad being who he is he would be pistoning that sledgehammer jab at Dempsey the whole fight making it next to impossible for the mauler to work inside. Although I think Dempsey is the better fighter he would be too outgunned in terms of size, strength, modern technique, etc.

The 190 lb James Toney that beat Jirov is a good chance against the superheavies much better than the overweight version.

The 190lb Evander Holyfield beats his share of Super heavys.

The 190lb David Haye was inexperienced, but probably still beats Valuev.

The 190lb Roy Jones Jr beats any superheavy that cant catch his chin.

A 190lb Michael Moorer would be very interesting.

A 190lb Thomasz Adamek still KOs Andrew Golota with ease.

A 190lb Michael Spinks is not given too much trouble by an old Jerry Cooney.

Those are just the high profile ones off the top of my head, that i can think of, who would be modern examples. It would be interesting to see some of the others like Dawson and Hopkins fight say a Superheavy like Whittaker or Meehan but we dont get to see those types of matches anymore. There is probably more money in fighting light heavyweights.

Could you pictutre Wlad taking what Willard took? Of course he is way more skilled than Willard but in terms of raw boned toughness, grit, heart, etc. he is lightyears behind the giants of yesteryear - Willard, Carnera, even Abe Simon who was butchered by Joe Louis.

In fairness to Wlad, he pretty much did against Corrie Sanders, didnt he?

How do you know Fulton wasn't as fast or technically skilled as Wladimir ?

Wlad has excellent tools to beat Dempsey but Wlad does not like pressure. Dempsey would bring on pressure, intensity and heat like Wlad never has seen. Wlad´s size advantages are ridiculous but Dempsey is faster, probably hits as heart and he has that unpredictable headmovement to avoid Wlad´s jab. And wlad bases everything on his jab. Take it away and he won´t know what to do. Dempsey would be able to do so. At least in the early rounds.
My pick is either Dempsey early or Wlad late. I favour Dempsey early. He would get too Wlad and knock him down. Wlad would get up and try to survive, clinch and lean on Dempsey but Jack on his best didn´t need much space to deliver huge powershots and he is one of the best finishers of all-time. 3-4 inches would be enough and he would have these against Wlad. Wlad would go down agains ... and rise again but wobbly on his feet and ref would save him from further punishment.
If Klitschko somehow survives the early onslaught of the Manassa Mauler this fight would turn into a typical Klitschko fight. He would jab, morve, throw an occasional right and left hook and break Dempsey down to TKO him in the late rounds. Johnson said after 4 rounds he is just another hooker. I think there is some truth in this and that´s why I think that Wlad wins if it goes past the 4th/5th round. Don´t think it would though.

    Dempsey TKO3 W. Klitschko

Definitly, he has heart. And will. Against Purrity, Sanders and Brewster he always rose and was stopped on his feet. He may not have the best chin but he definitly has heart, will and desire.
