How about all 3 judges are in seperate rooms watching a TV with no sound. This way they will be able to see punches clearer, will not influenced by the crowd.
:think Why not have a permanent judging pool in place just to judge world title fights...they could be housed in a completely neutral location (Switzerland like the red cross :deal ) have multi angle TV feeds and could clarify via playback between rounds.
You could still have corruption and pro or anti-fighter bias. It's the simple nature of judging and officiating - even if you try, there will always be some bias. That's just how people are. Also, sound is a key component when deciding how hard a punch is, how well it lands and whether it did land. If two guys land roughly the same amount of punches, you should reward the guy whose work was more effective. That's how hard the blows are. The joy of boxing is that judges see the same action from different angles. As flawed as the system can be, there's not a single method of judging that will stop the controversy.
good idea though i prefer voting by fone or text, democratic, peoples will, impossible to fix, one number one vote, and 3 minutes to do it in.
I've long thought more judges and/or TV judges could be a good idea. TV really does have its advantages. There shouldn't be any of those half baked highlights mid-rounds though that show whoever the home fighter is landing.
Gaz, this subject is only being debated because we are getting **** decisions on a weekly basis and its certainly marring my enjoyment of the sport
Yep I'd like to see the judges have more accountability for their scores though, and the ones that do come up with cards that are generally percieved to be bull**** not get any major matches to judge again.
Well is people are going to complain about decisions like Froch-Kessler then they are going to see a lot of "**** decisions". Theres been FAR worse than that and, bar the odd forum post, nobody has given a ****. And no, I'm not buying the "straw that broke the camels back" angle either. Froch-Kessler was a close fight, Kessler probably edged it but a couple of the cards were wider than they should have been because the fight was on Kesslers home soil. Rightly or wrongly thats been happening in boxing since the year dot. Froch knew the score and should have known what he had to do (more active, more aggressive) but he couldn't do it. Reform boxing because of Froch-Kessler? You've got to be kidding me.
why not have 3 chimps blindfolded, only able to hear the noise of the fight, and then at the end of the fight, take the blindfolds off, and let them select which one they like as winner. wouldn't be much different from some of the scoring nowadays
It's all out of proportion. There's nothing seriously wrong with the judging except that sometimes they get it wrong. As long as the right guys wins, the scores are irrelevant. ****, what do you do about something like Martinez-Cintron. He actually had to knock him out to get a draw.
Well look at am judging that is supposed to be moer accurate yet its just results in there being even more crazy decisions and robberies. I am tempted to say something like electronic body scoring but its just not feasible or going to work. The only thing i would say is maybe more judges 5 for example maybe more? to give a more definitive decision
I have felt for a long time that having the judges watch the fight on a tv rather than live in person may be better as when watching it on a tv you get the best possible angle. When watching in person you can miss scoring shots due to a bad angle and that can be costly when scoring a close round. Like someone else pointed out, more accountability for judges should also take place. Repeated bad performances should warrant a ban from title/big fights whilst the judge is re-assessed.
I think that's a good point about the judges being influenced by the crowd. Definitely makes a difference!
