Contendo - been a fan of Billy Dib's for a while now. Mate, I'm glad his team has recognised that it's time to move on. the superboxer thing was a mess to say the least and I feel for Billy as this will be the fight most people will judge him by. Good to see he is taking it more steadily this time and will hopefully have a more decent go at it the next time a shot presents itself. he certainly is a talented fighter and I think very fortunate to have had the experiences others would have dreamed of. I wish him all the best and I hope that, in time, more people can get behind him. It seems forgotten that his only loss was as a challenger to a seasoned world champion. A c'wealth belt sounds like a great idea and congrats for bringing out what seems like some quality opposition from Mexico.
Thanks Wrangler, much appreciated for the support of Billy. :good Ivan Hernandez, besides being Mexican which = tough, is a former world champion and has fought four world champions (the likes of Israel Vasquez) himself so very credentialed. Your absolutely right, Billy's only loss was to Luevano who had 5 successful defences so a top class fighter in his own right. Billy's 24, not 34 and it's coming together nicely for him. We'll keep on the path we are as we firmly believe it's working well for him and the team. If the Commonwealth opportunity eventuates, well and good but ranked at No. 4 with the IBF, I'm certain the right opportunity will present. :good Cheers!
Josey, how do you rate both Simpson and Lindsay? From what I've seen of Simpson, no disrespect he's pretty much one-dimensional as a boxer, but tough and loves to stand and trade, whereas I think Lindsay is the better mover/boxer of the two. Am I right in thinking Lindsay may have the class edge of the two?
Billy was scheduled to take on Jorge Linares a few years back. What made you guys pull out of this fight..?
Ranser, I can categorically state that certainly in my time involved with Billy and the team he has never been offered, or knocked back a bout with Jorge Linares so I can't comment for you. Opinion's are what make boxing. If you don't think he can win of the big 4 belts, your certainly entitled to that opinion. As a team, obviously we politely disagree and firmly believe in our plans and where we are heading. I note for you that Linares most recent activity is at Super-Featherweight, whereby Billy is campaigning at Featherweight (has been for 12 months+) and currently rated at #4 with the IBF at that weight. Cheers.
In Billys last fight, round 5 and 6 were flawless....if he can produce a few more of those rounds in the big fights he can beat anybody :deal Look at the guys movement, evasion, anticipation and combinations....hes very quick....hes got the goods for mine :good
I note you changed this question after your original post. I think my answer speaks for itself in answer to your now question of a 'few years back'.
Simpson goes to the body more with the left ( with decent effect ) but is a decent brawler , Lindsey can box ( solid Amature ) he just beat another Scots born fighter living here in Wales ( Jamie Arthur ) in a decent scrap ,
I saw Simpson on the Khan/Salita undercard vs. Stevie Bell in what I felt was a bit lacklustre. Your right about though, he loves the left. I saw a fair shot from Martin Lindsay when he popped Derry Matthews. Up until then, Derry wasn't going to bad, but then boom and he came a crashing!
Bloody massive left hook put an end to that argument if i remember correctly :-( what do you think are your chances of securing a Commonwealth shot for Dibb mate ?
Yeh fair to reasonable mate. We've certainly had positive discussions previous. At one stage it was mooted potentially for the Katsidis/Mitchell undercard but we've got the fight here on June 2nd and Frank Warren wanted to showcase his the young group of talent he signed last year. I see that card's now got about 10 fights - huge!!!
Ah that's good news Con , you know i love the Commonwealth title and having Dibby fighting for it will only improve its standing imo , yea Warren is pushing the boat out on the Kat's card , great night of boxing .
Frank's a fantastic promoter. I know at times the UK forum give him a bagging but by geez, he's built and promoted pretty much every topliner out of the UK for the last 20-30yrs. His track record is tip top. :good
Frank Warren has made a lot of average fighters World Champions , a lot of money and done a lot for Welsh boxing imo ok he ain't whiter than white but who is in this game ?
