Of the guys that he realistically could have fought and had a chance to fight. I was under the assumption that most people think Roy, back in his prime, would have beat him handily anyway. I know there were rumors of a Lennox fight at HW but they would've had to throw 50 million at him to take that. Roy dominated from MW to LHW for a long-time and it seems he gets penalized for being a cherry-picker by some.
In terms of fighters in his natural weight class. The biggest name he realistically could have fought though would have to be Mike Tyson.
true. yeah DM naturally is in that group that could have enhanced jones legacy and was probably the biggest name, and threat, he didn't face. as you guys noted lewis was a possibility but not in jones true 160-175 division range. some will say calzaghe and they may be right in retrospect, but at the time DM was the guy people wanted him to take out
I agree, one of the best jabs those days, great warrior and big hearted. I just regret he 'lost' to Gonzalez and been KOed by Tiozzo. If you lose, lose with the best, like then RJJ, but well.. he coulda exposed RJJ as well, 60/40 for Roy imo. But Dariusz is one of the most underrated boxers of 90's/first part of 00's for sure.
he's getting more (only slightly) his due now. i'll admit i know very little about him but people are no longer referring to him simply as a light heavy ottke, a fraud who cheated his way to the top. most people are recognizing his talent and lamenting the possibility of a DM/RJJ match that never happened
my understanding was no. HBO didn't want that much to do with it either; they underpriced the bout and never showed much interest in seeing it happen. jones, obviously, never would have gone over there
Yes, as a matter of fact every single belt Jones had belong/should have belonged to DM. IBF: Beat Hill for it, but IBF demanded DM make a mandatory defence in 30 days...very realistic WBA: Also beat Hill for it, but WBA didn't want to be linked with DM's WBO title at the time so they stripped DM WBC: Should have belonged to Rocchigiani when DM beat him, but WBC stripped Rocchigiani for no reason just so RJJ could have it, WBC was than sued and found wrong.
the Jones nuthuggers like to ignore this. Jones was a trinket belt collector. Nothing more. He could not take a punch and he had no heart so he took the easy way out every single time.
