Froch vs Abraham - Biggest fight of there careers

Maybe you want to look at 1995? That's probably the best year:

Benn -- Last great fight in 1995
McClellan -- last fight in 1995
Jones -- was fighting at 168 and prime in '95/'96
Eubank -- fading, mostly fighting above 168
Toney -- no longer able to make 168
Collins -- good fighter, not a great fighter
Watson -- ?? really?
Rocchigiani -- fighting and losing at 175
McCallum -- hadn't fought at 168 in a few years
Hearns -- hadn't fought at 168 since 1990
Jackson -- past prime and fighting at 160
Graham -- inactive and past it
Nunn -- past it and fighting at 175


Also, if you get to use the surrounding fighters, then today we get to use Bute, Pavlik, Martinez, Williams, Dawson, Pascal, Cloud, Hopkins, etc.

The Super Six fighters are excellent, and this division is in outstanding health.

 

This was a decent post until it turned into Calzaghe trolling. I used to not quite understand the Calzaghe hate on this forum. He's a decent enough guy, fun to watch in a weird way if you admire defensive skills. But ****ing Christ if his fans aren't insufferable.

 

We thought Froch vs Kessler was good. This fight will be 3x that! Both coming off losses, both desperately need the win and both are big punchers! I can't wait!

 

The only guys good enough to be in the tournament at that point were Toney, Eubank, Benn and Jones, and I'd add McClellan, too.

Jones would be a heavy favorite to win it, and the other four would be in for a dogfights (Toney no longer able to make weight healthily, and Eubank and Benn somewhat past it).

If Ward, Kessler, Froch, Dirrell, Abraham and Bute are the top six in some order, the 1994-95 group doesn't have a 5th or 6th guy at that level.

I'm not factoring Taylor or Green into this at all.

And even if you think 1994 is better, it's definitely competitive and certainly deflates your point about this being a weak group of fighters. There are hardly any other years even in the picture compared with 2010.

 

The division at the moment is way better than it was 5 years ago when Calzaghe was too good compared to Tocker Pudwil, Kabery Salem, Byron Mitchell, Charles Brewer, Omar Sheika...

If Calzaghe had Green, Ward, Dirrell, AA, Bute around in his time there would be no 46 and 0

 

It is a big fight for both...

But we all know that.

The real aim of the thread is to sell the division as weak.

And that - is a big big FAIL.

Don't even spend one second arguing with this person. He is so far out it is useless.

Full stop when you hit Dirrell. I think this young man may be for real. He is still quite young but has show very good potential.
