Yes 20k is peanuts if we are talking aboout Pac and Floyd, but how about boxers that fight with small purse?

 

Just speculation, do you think they would go that far to avoid blood testing because Manny needs 3 days to recover?

 

Arum said at a press conference that Manny will only fight in Nevada, Texas, and Florida because they have no state taxes. He said fighting anywhere else takes a big hit out of Pacquiaos pockets because he is not a american citizen. He already takes a big hit on taxes as is.

I think it was just a pissing contest in the end to be quite honest about it. I've had some stupid techs leave my arm black and blue because they were incompetent/lazy/both/whatever. I'd want a couple of days just to make sure my arm wasn't affected in case one of them did screw up. I have NO idea about drug schedules and how quickly they pass and when they would be given to be effective or any of that **** though. I've heard so much contradictory crap that it isn't even funny anymore.

 

That's right. They can't do drug testing for main event boxers only. They have to implement it to all boxers including those undercard boxers who earn very little purse.

 

Drug testing is a huge business. People forget at the end of the day after brass tax its a money maker.

 

The only way this works is if all states AND countries start doing it. There needs to be one protocol for all. Given the expense, the blood testing will only ever work if a purse exceeds a certain level.

 

Yea they can. We drug test olympic wrestlers but not high school wrestlers. Why? Because it only becomes practical or truly important at a certain level of competition. Likewise drug testing could be reserved only for championship fights, or fights where the purse exceeds a certain amount.

This would still have a deterrent effect, though not as thorough an effect as if everyone is testing. It would also ensure that if anyone was using PEDs going up through the ranks they would be found out very quickly at the championship level when they could no longer rely on the benefits of the performance enhancers.

 

Hey we all know that Texas right now dont even test for drugs at all! Which is a darn shame in itself.

 

It may work with selective drug testing. Maybe.

Regarding using the purse as the basis, for example this Mosley-Floyd fight and let's say the purse cutoff is set at $10M. Floyd is reported to get a $22.5M guaranteed purse so he will be blood tested. Mosley will be getting $7M purse so he will NOT be blood tested? Or are we talking about combined purse amount?

 

Which is why it only truly works if implemented on the national level, otherwise it is a race to the bottom.

 

Can't blame him for it, more seats brings more money and he's just taking full advantage of a mega event like this. This type of event comes once or twice in a life-time so why not make the most out of it and give far more people a chance to get a seat?. This isn't more money for him only but for both fighters as well and a great advantage for people willing to attend.
