The rematch in '97. When Tyson had the ear of Holyfield, and literally bit off more than he could chew ! Supposing Tyson had a more conventional appetite and waited till the fight was over before he dined ? What would have happened ? Would it have played out like their first bout ? Or would Tyson have bludgeoned his way back to the title ? I'm of the view that at this point,Evander would have beaten Tyson again.

Evander had already survived the toughest part of a Tyson bout--the early onslaught rounds. It was Tyson that got hurt early. The bout plays out like the first one with Evander fighting smart and waiting for the Tyson gastank to drain. Once that happens, he takes him apart and gets the stoppage. All Evander has to do is absorb a few Tyson flurries each round and they become fewer and fewer as rounds go by.

Tyson was in better condition for this fight. I watched him train down in Deerfield and he was working pretty good with Richie Giachetti.
I think the fight started off and Holyfield hit Tyson with a short uppercut that wobbled him a little and then the two cuts from the headbutts came, and I think Tyson just mentally fell apart.
Tyson was doing well in that last round before the bite and wobbled Holyfield back and followed it up with a nice combination. The fight was going to be more of a fight. Giachetti had him working on spinning out of clinches so Holyfield couldnt hold him and back him up, and I think that was going to make Holyfield fight more than grapple.
I think Tyson would have been far more competitive had the fight gone on, but I dont think he was mentally prepared to fight a long grueling fight, and he was cut pretty badly over both eyes very early in the fight. Tyson was horrible in that fight, but Holyfield went on to prove how dirty of a fighter he became. If Holyfield could get close he was going to use his head. He did a number on Hasim Rahman as well.

I'm a big Tyson fan, and feel that when he was in his groove he was probably the best heavyweight of any era.

    BUT...

Mike has major insecurity issues and when he loses his mental game and gets frustrated, he's done. Sad but true.

That being the case, I think Evander would probably have won, although you have to give Mike the "punchers chance".

What if both men were allowed to bite and butt as much as they wanted :D Tyson should have stuck to low blows and butting himself but Holy was the greatest butter of all time

Tyson always thought that Holyfield was a guy he could whip. The first fight proved Evanders toughness and how unwilling he was to be bullied. Tyson took his licks and though gracious in the ring about the loss, he stewed about it and trained even harder so that the second time around the outcome would be different.

Had the second fight gone on, it would have been extremely competetive (I believe) with both fighters being rocked. In the end I feel that Evander once again would become victorious. No matter the tactics used by Mike, Evander wasn't susceptible to intimidation and his conviction in the ring coupled with incredible conditiong would see him through.

Tyson would have done better than he did in their first fight but Holyfield would have won again, probably by stoppage.

Tyson was a pretty good butter himself, sneaky with it in his prime and prolific. I think that's what really pissed him off, he was peeved that Holyfield was better at everything, fair and foul.

That was something Evander said he had to do to Tyson to win--tit for tat fight. If Tyson fouls, don't wait for the ref, answer immediately. And don't just be the guy retaliating, but initiate.

I've always liked both fighters, and i've long thought about the result of this fight if Mike didnt lose the plot.....

I think evander wins late by TKO, i still think Tyson would have run out of gas.....But if you've ever watched the full 3 rounds & the bite, mike was throwing like a demon & seemed to be gaining some ground right before he went haywire.....oh well lol
