this is the same story before EVERY one of floyds fights...this guy should win because of xyz and he has a real chance of beating floyd, and then after they get beaten its, 'he was never a real challenge, he was too old, too slow, too small, not athletic enough etc', and then people complain that he doesnt take on threats...
so he has never been down (the zab kd is debatable but even that was all balance) and rocked maybe twice in his career, and his chin is questionable? if u watch his fights, u'll see that getting hit actually motivates him to fight and go harder at his opponent not actually hurt him...yet people can claim somebody like froch has an iron chin when he gets his legs buckled in every recent fight.
Mayweather has flaws for sure but his reflexes are too damn freakish for anyone to exploit them aside from pacquiao at the weight (seriously watch mayweather fights in slow mo, its one of the areas in which he has pacquiao and all other fighters trumped): -Holds hands low on occasion -Leaps with the left hook (amazing athleticism) -Exposes left side body momentarily when using shoulder roll -Spends too much time defending (hed rather block 7, move away and land 1 potshot) Maybe outhustled? -Power is not as good as someone like pacquiao but technique is far better which reduces counter punching oppurtunity for the opponent. -Leans back on the ropes to defend against hooks leaving himself open to a straight right hand (once you have moved back on the ropes to the extent that you have to move forward to get out of the way, the opponent can step in with the right hand). A big one i see in mayweather however is muscle endurance or in other terms the ability to have a high activity rate. What i mean here is when mayweather really lets his hands go in combination his speed tails off dramatically towards the end. He will throw 2-3 fast powerful shots but will then have much less snap on 3-6. Bottom line is that mosley cannot match the footspeed of mayweather and will lose a decision. I see this fight as answering questions about floyd that we dont know the answers to. Such as, just how good are his feet (speed, skill, endurance)? How hard can he punch (he will land on shane)? How does he deal with having physical and athletic disadvantages? (zab judah is crap by the way).
If you view Mosley as just "another opponent" you are in for a big surprise. And no, I am not claiming that Mosley will exploit these weaknesses. I am sure to Nazem has put together a gameplan to do so but it remains to be seen if it succeeds.
This is a also a point some people simply don't understand. Floyd has never been in wars, tough grueling fights. He was pretty much having his way with Chavez and please the second Castillo fight was more of a tactical battle. Yes maybe Floyd has not been so good but in my opinion the reason is that he has never fought fighters of the caliber of Mosley and Pac. Make no mistake about it, Mosley will be tested, maybe he has it in him, we will see.
it just seems like everyone has their hopes up that shane can do it, then when he gets shut down everybody will try to discredit a floyd victory...its the same story with pretty much all his opponents..shane is no walk in the park, but if mayweather can beat him i guarantee he wont get credit.
Tactical battle or not it toke balls to rematch the guy many deem(me included) as the guy who beat Mayweather. Augustus was a tough fight even though he was being beaten decisively.
very good post. thats pretty much how i feel. i dont think shane will win but it will be a good test to see what mayweather has. pac/may next
Let me clarify: When Castillo fought Mayweather, he did use head movement, but he combined it with a high guard to give Mayweather less of a target, as Mayweather likes to pot shot to the head. As far as southpaw stance goes, Judah and Urkal (I think that is the guy) are the only guys who actually hit Mayweather AND hurt him. He did come back and win both fights easily, but those are the two instances I recall seeing him wobbled and hurt a bit.
Ofcourse Floyd has weaknesses...Floyd is not perfect. Every boxer has weaknesses...and no boxer is perfect.
