It was confirmed in the 2nd round that the gloves did matter as soon as Pacquiao landed his first flush timed punch Morales was rocked and nearly hit the canvas if he didn't grab on to the ropes(which is considered a knockdown anyway).

I found on another board a discussion about Grant gloves and their effectiveness. It's an older discussion I googled and the participants are people that actually have sparred in them. The concesus is they are ideal for defence because of their squarer shape and thus favored by Floyd and Winky. The shots have a harder time coming through a tight guard than the sleeker Reyes gloves. I can't post up the discussion cuz of forum rules.

Just saying this for those saying choice of gloves don't mean anything.
