Hmm theres a bigger size difference than I thought there would be. Should be some late money coming in on Mosley!!!!
Do you know the difference between flexion and extension? Apparently ****ing not. Floyd's arm isn't fully extended in that pic you moron. AND, Floyd DOES have the longer arms: Floyd's arm: 26 inches Shane's arm 25 inches
I agree with a lot of what you say. Just because Shane is bigger doesn't necessarily mean he is actually bigger. Some people have more dense muscle than others. Punch power is generated from the legs - to an extent. It's important to remember that while Shane has HUGE thighs, the calves are more important to power. Rather than size, it is more the explosive strength in them that is important - hard to judge from the weigh in. Power is also generated by leverage and explosive movement from the shoulders and chest. Most people would think that giant chest + shoulders = punch power. This is not the case - bigger, stronger muscles in the back and core allow a fighter more leverage to throw his arms forward by stabilising the movement and allowing the power to flow with speed.
This fight does look more interesting by the day - didn't think Shane would look that big, but can't and won't bet against Floyd - going to be fantastic, not boring - just pure boxing - I can feel it!!!!!!
You are putting way too much into calves, Thomas Hearns had no calves or thighs. Different fighters generate power differently, I like to believe that some people are born big punchers, and adapt the techniques very fast. Shane is without a doubt the bigger powerpuncher, and his chest, shoulders and arms do play a role in his power, as he torques(sp?) when he extends punches, he gets his entire body behind them, and really rotates his torso into them punches.
I agree with what you're saying - I probably didn't explain myself properly. Certain fighters use their legs to provide the base for their power and in their case it is grounded in their calves but there are many different ways boxers generate power - like I said, I believe the core is very important for whipping the punches in when a fighter punches 'from the hips' and that the back is very important for fighters like Hearns who generated power from the leverage that he got from having strong muscles in his back to stabilise his chest and shoulder muscles. I agree with you about Shane's chest, shoulders etc being important. I think his triceps (on the face of it) don't look strong enough. I think more width across the top of his back would let him use the strength in his chest and shoulders more too. But hey, looks can be very deceiving too!

Yep, you certainly know a lot I can tell, but at the end of the day we can only speculate. Im sure you've been to the gym and you've seen guys who are bodybuilders who can't punch for ****, and then in comes skinny kids who are able to drop bombs. People are different and some people, in my opinion, are born punchers.
Haha, well that's me told - I guess I can put that one down to an optical illusion then. For the record - I don't think that the thigh is important as far as muscle size or strength goes in boxing and isn't really a factor unless someone has incredibly weak, tiny thighs.
