The buzz around this fight is ridiculous. I'd be shocked if it doesn't break 2 million. I wouldn't be surprised if it did 2.5 million.
That number is impossible and ridiculous. People know Shane Mosley and they know Money Mayweather. And this is one of the best 24/7 series EVER. On top of that the buzz around this fight is as high as I've seen for a fight. The only time the buzz was higher than this was for Manny Pacquiao vs Money Mayweather. The buzz was so great for that fight that people who dont even watch boxing and who dont even like boxing were talking about paying to see it.
That's what a lot of boxing fans don't get. Boxing is a business and if your smart about it you will leave it healthy, happy, and rich. We all know of great fighters who left it broke, miserable, and in bad shape but have great legacies. Who would you rather be at the end of your boxing career, Floyd Mayweather or Tommy Hearns?
1.5 Million is DAMN good, no DAMN GREAT! I hope I'm wrong for the sake of boxing, but Mosley can't draw flies to ****, and I'd be surprised if Mayweather can produce 2 million on is own. Then again it's GBP that's promoting the fight, and they are a hell of a promotional company...it may be possible I guess...but I don't see it happening.
It's hitting 2 million I do now believe. People were left outside the gate for the weigh in because it filled up. It's madness in Vegas. Ton of people came in for the fight and don't have a ticket. I'm just counting down the hours til I hit my seat. Floyd is the man.
You ought to care if you care about future fights. The more money they make the easier the negotiations with Pacquiao for the winner of this one and it's safe to say that's a fight everyone wants.
Don't worry he will. Last time he was just trying to get the fight done so he agreed to 50/50 even though he had the numbers to back him up but this time he's going to go for Arum's throat!
Did anyone read this article on Mayweather's ppv drawing power? http://www.ringtv.com/blog/1874/mayweather_is_payperview_powerhouse/ One might point out that 2.44 million of Mayweathers total buys come from his fight against De La Hoya in 2007 and ask: Is it De La Hoya, the bigger star at the time, who deserves most of the credit? Not necessarily. Taffet said the difference between the then non-heavyweight-record 1.4 million buys of De La Hoya-Felix Trinidad and the 2.44 million of De La Hoya-Mayweather can be traced to Mayweathers fan base. The large urban centers across America made up the majority of the increase, Taffet said. That indicated to me that Floyd Mayweather has tremendous pay-per-view prowess and was driving the urban centers of America. Floyd Mayweather played as big a role (in the success of the promotion) as De La Hoya did.
I doubt it he will get $58.5 million for this fight, Because he has said himself $40 million, I would think Maybe with 3 million buys his pursue would top $60-70 million
If this does 3 million and he wins, Arum and Pac are looking at 30-35%. He would have quadrupled PAC's last fight and beaten PAC's last two fights by 1 million buys!!!!
