What a flurry to win the fight. it was truly ferocious and i cannot believe the referr didnt stop it after the second punch!

but boxrec shows that montiel is only the wbc champion, was he stripped of the wbo belt?

He's still wbo champ. That title was not on the line as the Japanese boxing board only recognise WBC and WBA.
Excellent performance away from home against a very dangerous champ.
    Montiel deserves enormous praise.

Yup. Think Hasegawa wants a rematch but I doubt he'll get it. Montiel might go after Darchinyan.

Tremendous win by a terrific little fighter.

Completely exposed Hasewhatsisname as an overrated Japanese myth who has been defending his title against guys who wouldn't get a job as a Vic Darchinyan sparring partner.

It sets up some excellent fights for him.

Without looking up the WBC ratings, isn't Cristian Mijares his mandatory? Not an easy fight but if he gets through that Showtime will likely pick up a fight against the winner of Vic v Nonentity.

Montiel has been severely underrated his entire career.

Veeraphol was a better fighter than Montiel when Hasegawa beat him.
If you think so litle of Hasegawa then you cant really rate Montiels victory that highly.

The Hasewhathisname fans are in denial.

The Thai was what, 36 years old, when Hase fought him? Without the benefits of a steriods program, that's ancient for a little guy.

Hasewhathisname beat an old-timer for the title and then made a long string of meaningless title defences against inept opposition in his own back yard.

He was a light-hitting Japanese creampuff who only ever fought in the land of the whale-killers for good reasons.

Kudos to Montiel for exposing him.

There's not much to debate here. The facts speak for themselves:

    1. The Thai who Hasewhathisname beat for the title was an old-timer.

    2. Hasewhathisname made a long-string of meaningless title defences against guys who wouldn't get a job as a Vic Darchinyan sparring partner.

    3. Hasewhathisname was a light-hitting creampuff who only ever fought in the land of the whale-killers for good reasons.

    4. Fernando Montiel is the unified WBC & WBO bantamweight champion and will likely get an opportunity to cash in on a lifetime of hard work in his next two or three fights.

    Good on him, I say.

Please take your sooking elsewhere & allow those of us who wish to pay homage to Montiel's excellent performance to do exactly that.

Yeah, meanwhile Vic is fighting the jack in the box drive thru.
