I just watched an excellent doc on HBO titled Thrilla in Manila. The documentary chronicles the bitter rival between Ali and Frazier.

Here's new information that I learned.

1 ) Ali wanted to quit and told Dundee to cut the gloves off on his stool at round 14! Dundee said OK, then before he could act, Frazier's corner stopped the fight!

2 ) Frazier fought his entire pro career with a bad eye.

Here's what I suspected that was confirmed.

1 ) The nation of Islam used Ali like a puppet, and feed him some of his most famous lines on Vietnam.

Ali was very cruel to Frazier. At the end of the doc, Frazier was asked if he would have risked his life to fight the 15th. Yes, Frazier replied.

This thread is about Ali and Frazier. Silly photos replies and insults need not apply.

Can you possibly have missed that this discussion has been done to death? I suggest you go back and find the earlier threads on this very subject.

Please show an older thread that discuses Frazier''s damaged eye from a sparring session prior to him turning pro, or Ali telling Dundee to cut the gloves off as I must have missed those discussions.

If you watch the doc, you will a lot. The testimonials from both camps were excellent.

Is that the documentary from last year where they interview Freddie Pechacho and he is a real horses ass? I take it that is the one?

All these things have been discussed. I won't waste the time to find the threads, so either you believe me or you don't.

**** Mendoza... that doc has been out for a while. and I don't believe it. that doc Is so biased towards Joe it's not even funny. I seriously doubt Joe would win that fight.
so... yeah. old news. and I don't know why you're bringing up this anyways. it's already well well known that on boxrec and other reliable record sites that Ali beat Frazier via tko/Ko....

The more interesting one that doesn't get discussed is this: Ali fainted right after Smokes' corner retired him. If they had gone on to the 15th, presumably he would have fainted as well? The fight would have been stopped, surely.

How is the doc biased toward Frazier? Ali has more living members from his camp which speak. I felt the Butch Lewis part, who was in Frazier corner was honest when he said he did not want to tell Frazier how alive and ready Ali looked in the first fight when he went to check Ali's gloves.

As for the scoring, the people felt Ali was up by 1 point in Manila.

Nooooooo, you can't presume that for a minute!!

Ali let go - he relaxed. He gave up. He also had a spell after The Rumble In The Jungle.

That is a possibility. Ali was very tired, possible dehydrated, and definitely spent.

Frazier had issues seeing, but he might have had more stamina left.

Yes, Fernie Pacheco speaks. So does Hauser, who is Ali's best writer.
