Not to mention his involvement with Kiko Martinez and Ponsawat, certainly I don't think Irish boxing is high on his list of priorities!
I'd be amazed if they showed Kavanagh, let's face it we stil haven't managed to see Carlos on Sky and all his fights have been on Sky televised shows so far.
It's a shame that the London games will probably come a bit too soon for Ward. Looks like a terrific prospect. Will be interesting to see what weight he matures in to as a senior and when he has his first crack at them.
Alvarez looks like he is fresh off a halting site ,His mothers name is Barragan and its meant to have replaced an Irish name that the Mexicans couldn't get their tongue around when the Irish were down there during the Mexican V American war were we jumped ship and helped the Mexicans and Married into mexico. A friend told me this so don't quote me on it. Also like Paddy I claimed him last yr when I saw his fight against Euri Gonzalez and I was hooked . I was convinced he was Irish till I heard him speak .No matter wheres he's from I am a fan the Mickican.
yeah thats the lads alright there is a town named after them in memory of their heroics , any of them who survived the war were hung as deserters by the US army after the war .
I have to say with the Jamie Kavanagh Golden Boy deal what a great deal for Jamie to get as a unsigned boxer. I hope he gets a fight here some time next year it would be great not just for Irish boxing but for the Dublin fight scene to have another name to look out for. Imagine a home coming bill put on by Peters / Golden Boy with Kavanagh , Byrne and even Andy Lee and any other Irish fighters in the US on the Paddys Day or that weekend. It would sell out the stadium if not the o2 if Lee was fighting a decent fighter.
Great point - I agree with you 100%. Kavanagh and Byrne can fight at home once per year and it would do them good to get that home support and develop a following on both sides of the Atlantic. I think TV would love it too - Freddy Roach's Irish prodigies fighting in Dublin in the 02 - there are some unbelievable cards out there to be made - fingers crossed it happens. I think Irish boxing is buzzing at the moment and hopefully with the likes of Byrne and Kavanagh entering the equation - RTE will cover more shows. In the meantime, the show in Limerick looks class - I wish it didnt clash with the Mitchell-Katsidis card otherwise I would go down to it.
