Even though Mosley is 38, I was impressed by Floyd and it did improve my opinion of him as a fighter. I think Mosley did exactly what he needed to do early in the fight, and Floyd took it, adjusted, and completely neutralized him. That's what the greats do.
I don't think I'm dogmatic. I came to conclusion that Mosley was tired because he looked tired, and his work rate got progressively worse. It's not as if I fabricated the excuse to rid Mayweather of any credit. I just called it how I saw it, but now I've had time to reflect, I should have been more focused on what Floyd was doing as opposed to what Mosley wasn't doing. Mayweather was wonderful, no question about it.
Overall the same except 2 things. 1st - Aggressiveness. He pushed the action. Everytime Ken seperated them Mayweather moved forward and pressed, something I didn't think he'd do. 2nd - Chin. I was amazed when he took those shots in round 2. His head was gone for a split moment but in that moment he was still aware enough to grab hold of Shanes arm and stall an onslaught. But in saying this Mosley was terrible, there's no doubting this. People will say Mayweather had him confused and took him out of his game. Personally I think Shane was nervous from the off, he looked tense, came forward in straight lines all night, no lateral movement. There was no plan B. Brilliant performance from Floyd, but Shane was **** poor.
Mosley really isn't that big a puncher compared to the great punchers at 147, not with one punch anyway. When was the last time Mosley really hurt a guy like that with one shot in an early round?
That doesnt mean he cant punch hard its that fights top competition, and really doesnt even fight that often. Id bet you Vargas or Mayorga,Magarito would tell you that Shane hits hard.
I don't think anyone is disputing that Mosley hits hard, he just isn't a concussive one punch hitter. No real reason to go round in circles.
Correct. Mosley is an excellent puncher, but he stops guys through attrition. He's not the type to really hurt guys early with single shots, if anything the fact that Floyd was that hurt by Mosley leads me to believe that he doesn't have that great a chin at 147.
What really impressed me was how Mayweather took complete command in the third round and never relinquished control. After being hurt and almost going down in the second he was able to start backing Mosley up in the third. The counterpuncher became the attacker (total role reversal) and vise versa.
True. I expected Mayweather to be extra cautious but he took the play away from Shane and was just clinical through to the end.
Same as I did before: a supremely talented and tactically brilliant fighter whose fights have exclusively been against guys either badly outclassed (usually by several levels in class) or too old and past their prime to keep up with him. That said, even though I was really afraid that Mosley would wind up looking bad in this fight, (having been a fan of Shane for going on 13 years, my reaction to the fight was pretty much summed up like this: :-() Floyd did considerably better than I expected and neutralized Shane much easier than I thought he would. I also think that while Floyd may have been too crafty and adaptable for the version of Shane from 1998-2000, it's just as likely that that version of Shane keeps whacking Floyd like he did in the second round and KOs him.
