This is not legacy, this is statistics and without taking his poor opposition into account doesn´t mean anything.

While I agree with this post over all, Peter was not the number two hw.

    Ridiculous.

Right but he was never the heavyweight champion of the world. Like his brother is.

On this issue Wladamir is likley to receive suport from an unlikley quater here in the classic forum.

Whatever you think of an era, you have to give props to a guy who is diominating it over a significant period and consistently taking out the ranked contenders.

    No era is that weak.

Given Waldamirs curent winning steak, I can see no justification for not considering him for a top 20 or top 15 slot.

    >>Mendoza says: A legacy is a body of work that is distinguished itself form the field. I am using the field of history here. I disagree when you says it doesn't mean anything. As far as opposition goes, many champions oppositions can be questioned.

    >>Disagree Vitali was Ring Magazine champion, same as Wlad which is the gold standard. He was also #1 across the board by box rec, fight news, ring magazine, ESPN, et all. This = heavyweight champion of the world.

I did not say it does not mean anything. It does mean something. When you factor in the competition. Since Vitali´s opposition is poor to mediocre overall the worth of those is thoroughly statistics devalued.

No, it is not. Beeing linear hw champ is. Vitali was not. Wlad is.

    1. H2H he rates highly..6'1 214lb with freakish 84" reach and 15" fists. He was a very scientific boxer with excellent head and upperbody movement. He had one of the best left jabs of all time and combined that with devastating two fisted knockout power. His left hook was one of the finest and history, and his right hand was like a big club. His uppercut was monsterous. He had underrated handspeed, his punches were accurate, and he was an excellent finisher. He was immensely strong physically, had a terrific chin, and he was tough. Liston could fight effectively from the outside and the inside, which is rare.

    2. He defeated excellent competition and cleaned out his era. He twice knocked out a prime ATG heavyweight in one round, Floyd Patterson. He also defeated excellent dangerous contenders like Zora Folley, Eddie Machen, and Cleveland Williams. Mike Dejohn, and Nino Valdez were big punchers who posed a threat to anybody, and his two wins over a talent like Johnny Summerlin with only 5 pro bouts under his belt are very impressive. His one round demolition of the rock chinned Wayne Bethea was symbolic of his dominance.

    3. He hardly ever struggled in his prime

    4. He ducked no one

    5. He beat a wide variety of different styles

    6. Most of the top competition he beat were in their primes

We'll have to wait and see....maybe Haye will use the tried and tested Klitschko tactic of waiting until his opponent is over the hill before he fights WALDO :yep

I expect to get some wonderful quote of the week threads whatever the result. I expect Haye to jump from being a blown up cruiserweight hyped up British bum to being a potential ATG by some on here if the fight gets signed.

    thank you lol.
come to think of it, he really should rank higher in everyone's books. his resume is pretty good, beat just about everybody he could fight. I always wondered how he would do against Tyson or ali in his prime. it qoulnt be the same. I think Shot Liston vs shot Ali liston would win lol

Rahman forced VITLAY to fight or lose his belt, VITLAY didn't want to fight so he retired.

Feel free to point out why the above isn't 'factual' if it's facts you want :good

Or when Maskaev/Pele Reid KO'd his ass :D

That line about never being knocked down by a punch is bull**** too, as has been proven on here time and time again, he got knocked down by part time golfer and pro donut eater Corrie Sanders :deal

    Fighting Weight,

Check out this interview with Oleg Maskaev before he got stopped in the first round by Nagy.

Interesting how whenever Vitali is dealt with adversity or pain..he winds up retiring on his stool or pulling out of a fight. He is a man who does not know how to fight through pain. That's why he could never be a great fighter. Even Maskaev question's Vitali's mental toughness.
