LOL!!! Good to see ya man. I have lil peeks in here and am prolly behind the 8 ball on inside jokes. I mainly post if i see something glaring (IMO only of course) like Duo's dismissal of Tyson's power or the like.

 

The 2nd fight was far closer than the first and Monroe was a mere shell in the rubber, but that's by the by, the point was that Willie 'suddenly' remembered he overheard the Ali cut the gloves remark 20 years after it happened (and when it became an issue years later when tales of the fight were becoming 'samey'.). It's a good story but more 'Ali stable storytelling' (5 minute break between rounds 4 & 5, gold medal in river, quit after 14th, etc).

Taking the oft debated point about Ali wanting to quit,As I and many others have mentioned before,this was probably nothing more than a wistful yearning,like a child wishing it was Christmas in July ! There's no way that Ali of Frazier would have quit to ANYONE ! Let alone each other. Both men would have fought till they could n't have stood up. Ali still had three minutes left in him at the end of the 14 th. Frazier did n't,and Eddie Futch did the right thing in pulling him out.

All this stuff about Ali's slavishness to the NOI and his womanising may have elements of truth,but it's all been done to death. Ali may have been great,but he's still human. He'd be the first to admit he was wrong in the past. He was hardly the only one.

From what im led to beleive, Ali,like after the foreman fight, went to the canvas to get a bit of breathing space as he was surrounded by dozens of people. Its nothing sinister to try and pick up on

 

Ali would have came out and fought. He was well ahead and winning the previous rounds. He once told Dundee to "cut the gloves off" when Liston cheated with the substance that got into his eyes. Just because he said "cut them off" doesn't mean that he was really going to quit. If the thought entered his mind, who could blame him? We would all think about quitting in such circumstances. That is the importance of having a solid team. If you are ever in doubt, let the corner do their job and reaffirm the situation.

 

but come on, this stupid doc was trying hard to make Ali look bad, I'd love to see a doc about Manila with Ali and his camp. they could make Frazier look twice as bad, throwing in this **** about Ali being overrated and him switching wives all the time. Sure, it might be true, but it has absolutely nothing to do with their third fight, and they are just looking for opportunities to exploit Ali.

 

The doc had Pacheco, and Hauser from the Ali camp comment. Most of Frazier's corner and camp for the fight passed, with the exception of Benton.

Take note, it was Hauser who confirmed Ali asked Dundee to cut the gloves off. This begs the question would Hauser, who makes his living on Ali say anything false about his guy?
