Thanks, JT. Great is great, and shouldn't be thrown around willy-nilly.

Here's what we found out last weekend: Floyd is great, because he finally proved it. We also found out that Oscar De La Hoya doesn't know his boxing history. If he did he wouldn't have spoken out of his rear-end about Floyd 'possibly being one of the greatest of all-time.' That kind of hyperbole is irresposible and disrespectful. If he means it, then he is ignorant.

(By the way, I wasn't alive when Woodstock happened for cryng out loud.)

Stonehands is younger than me. I demand the extra credit that comes from being less in tune with this generation.

One thing stonie. "One of the Greatest ever" can mean what you think it means, or it can mean just that. If he's saying that Mayweather is one of the thirty or forty greatest fighters of all time, I don't have any kind of problem with that.

Don't wonder Marquez has been trying to fight him again. They can do it at 140 or 147. Marquez beat him both times anyway whatever the judges say so might as well make it a hatrick.

To say that Mayweather became great strictly on beating Mosley is plain wrong. Mayweather proved a hell of a lot when he outclassed Corrales over 10 rounds in 2001. That was the last time he wasn't 'outright' favoured to win a fight with the oddsmakers. I have always felt that Corrales was his greatest win. Taking into consideration his performance and quality of opponent. With the benefit of hindsight, Corrales probably had weight problems. But it was the first time Mayweather fought a dangerous puncher who many thought would knock him over like a skittle.

I feel that Williams might be the man to cause Mayweather problems. Hell, he's an awkward son of a gun. Wlad Klitschko reach, variation, decent power and a high workrate. It sure would be interesting to see how Mayweather copes with the height and reach.

We have some delusional people here if anybody thought Marquez won both fights easily.

Marquez was a shadow of himself at Welterweight, he was carrying to much weight, whereas Manny has looked better than ever north of 135lbs.

    Manny brutalizes Marquez between 140-147lbs.

Does anyone feel that Mayweather could outjab Williams on the outside?

Possibly because Williams doesn't have much of an inside game to speak of, kind of like Tommy Hearns, maybe their arms were just too long at 147/54 to have a good inside game.

I agree with the first sentence.Maybe a bit pesumptious of me, but i tend to think anyone saying that really felt he was great for a while, but maybe couldn't bring themselves to admit it.

Yes because Williams doesnt really utilize his height and reach like he should. Its amazing to see a guy with such an advantage not utilize it and instead decides to volume punch. Some guys just cant fight at distance, they have to get close to be effective. Diego Corrales was another example at 130-135. Williams wont have much of a long career boxing the way he does and as he moves up in weight his style will become less affective.

    Really?

I'd say 114-111 and 115-112 is pretty clear, especially in the circumstances.

The first fight was basically a schooling bar the first couple of rounds, though the 2nd fight was closer.

If Mayweather has any legs left, he'll make Williams look like a total buffoon. They didn't look so good on Saturday night, though.
