Threat level is Orange up in the green-white-and-red! :bbb

A win over the disgraced Margarito would put this warrior right in the mix. He's one of many on the precipice of breaking through to the top at 154, just one big win away. He beat up the very good welterweight Freddy "El Riel" (The Rail") Hernandez but came away with only a NC. This opportunity would pay even bigger dividends if he can pull it off.

    War Amenaza!

You've been hyping Garcia for a while now, if he looks impressive against Margarito you get first dibs as the chief engineer of the "La Amenaza" band-wagon.

The thing is, Tony usually gets by on what? Being tough & strong, busy & long. The only one of those four attributes where Garcia isn't at least equally his match is "busy" - but I'll take three or four from Margarito instead of one hard shot from Roberto. Height and reach is a wash; Garcia knows how to defend better at least than does Margarito; and Roberto possesses the far meaner uppercut.

Imposing your strength and length on welterweights is one thing, but Garcia has campaigned as high as 160, and has both broken men's ribs and knocked them out of the ring (feats Margarito doesn't have to his credit, unless someone is privy to the contrary).

This guy has the same proportions as and hits harder than Kermit Cintron. Unlike Kermit, however - he is mentally and physically durable. The last man Margarito faced that was this big and strong was Santos (long before the layoff that rendered him useless).

There is plenty of video evidence floating around (the Riel fight and several against lesser opposition) showing that this "hand-picked" return opponent is liable to blow up in Margarito's face.

And the NEW face of Mexican slugging...

I promise Margarito is going to get his ass kicked.”- Eric Brown, Roberto Garcia’s co-trainer

Texas toughman ROBERTO "La Amenaza" GARCIA has declared Saturday, May 8 a new Mexican holiday - Sinko de Margarito! Garcia has been working with Freddie Roach and Eric Brown and is in his final days of training before his Saturday night rumble with three-time world welterweight champion ANTONIO MARGARITO.

"This is a big fight which is why I left my home in Texas to work with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card in Hollywood, California,'" said Garcia. "I had six great weeks of hard training and unbelievable sparring. Freddie had me in the ring with Angulo and other great fighters. I am ready to get it on in the big bullring in Aguascalientes and play matador to Margarito."

"Roberto Garcia is a big puncher, something Freddie and I saw right away when he came into the Wild Card to train," said co-trainer Eric Brown. " Margarito is going to get his ass kicked. I promise you that."

"Margarito has been off too long and is not going to win this one," said Julio Marines, Garcia's manager. "Look at what happened to Shane Mosley - off way too long. In fact Margarito has been off as long as Mosley and Mosley paid the price. Sorry but that's what will happen to Margarito too. Ring rust, that kind of stuff. I know in my heart Roberto Garcia will win on Saturday night."

Garcia (28-2, 21 KOs), a native of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico who fights out of Weslaco, Texas, enters this fight riding a five-year, 14-bout unbeaten streak. Garcia possesses impressive power in both fists, where 75% of his victories have come by way of knockout and many of those stoppages produced by devastating body shots. During his impressive streak, Garcia has captured the Caribbean Boxing Federation interim welterweight title and the Texas welterweight title.

Pacquiao’s conditioning expert Alex Ariza told us that Margarito “is in for a very big surprise” indicating that Garcia would beat him.

Garcia has refused to say anything about the so-called illegal hand-wraps and has described Margarito as a great fighter but promised to provide “a big upset.”

Garcia said he “feels ready for the Margarito challenge and I feel very confident that I will win this fight. He (Margarito) already had his time, now its my time to shine.”

A request, issued to all those confidently picking Margarito to destroy Garcia:

Should Garcia win, please give him full credit and make no excuses for Margarito.

No "Well, Mosley/the layoff/a deep depression from the unjust mistreatment of American commissions and damage to his reputation took a lot out of him if he was able to lose to a bum like this" bull****.

I want all you hardcore skeptics to reserve props for Roberto if he pulls this off.

    Thank you.

Of course, if I'm wrong, there will be a crow feast for one.

Do me this one solid. Don't come up with excuses or take away credit ex post facto should Roberto prove to be the man he seems to me to be.

I've just watched a couple of his fights. Don't know what to make of him. Exciting for sure. This might be one of the best under the radar fights of the year.

Dude, if this dude busts through Margarito. 154 is gonna be what the welterweight used to be.
