hh ,I'll have to come up with a MARTIAN fighter to stump you...Yes Battling Siki, who was a war hero in World War !.Became light heavy champ in 1922, and became a troubled figure, and was killed in Hells Kitchen, NY in 1925....
My father saw him train in NY, and told me Siki had muscles on muscles, but was not a stable character...b.b.

It is debateable whether Siki was a war hero or war criminal. Some reports have Siki, instead of taking out a German machine gun nest single handedly, killing a group of unarmed German's who were either already prisoners or were in the process of surrendering.

Yes Siki was considered unstable in and out of the ring...He took a brutalk beating from the murderous punching OOm Paul Berlenbach leading to his retirement. In retirement he lived in the infamous Hell's Kitchen where he was shot to death one evening...

    Ross cancer, WWII hero.

Siki, I dont think was a hero, he gun down unarm POWS and got a medel for it, I belive, could be wrong, he was finally booted out of the army.

Cerdan was a War hero, plane crash enroute to the rematch,

Most could be the answer, maybe a few others. I dont think Siki was a hero.

Siki earned theCroix De Guerre from the French Gov't in World War 1.
Yes, there was conjecture about the merits of the award as stated above...
Too me the greatest boxing hero, was Barney Ross at the battle of Guadalcanal.Ross saved many lives that night ,but developed Malaria, and became addicted to pain killers..After a long struggle for his morphine addiction ,Ross licked that too..What a man was Barney Ross.True HERO.

I don't think Ross had a bad ending. He had his problems but he overcame them.
