Look, it's only a big deal if Floyd's opponents come forward and gripe about it. I haven't heard anything from Hatton that suggest he was cheated. Unless I've missed something, all I've heard from Hatton was that Floyd was too big for him and he has a difficult style to deal with. Maybe they hold back to prevent being called a sore loser but I say as long as one doesn't cross the line he's fine. Stepping on the line will irritate a lot of people but you're still safe in my book. If he's using this elbow tactic and getting away with it, do the same to him. Don't be a *****, give him a taste of his own medicine. If you don't have the balls or brains to do it then you'll end up as another name on his resume.
here here. at the end of the day- its a fight. he s using a borderline move- and being allowed to get away with it- so why not. i personally dont like it- not because its illegal- but because it smothers the other guys clean punching and often ends up in a tangle which needs about 10 breaks a round- which ****s up the rhythm of the fight viewing for me and probably everyone else. it also ****s up the rhythm of the other man- who probably would prefer to have his right hand slipped or blocked than rolled over an elbow and forearm. its almost a martial arts move- as if you lunge with a right you end up with a sharp elbow to the throat. instead of whinging about it, others should just use it against him. or just hit him in the nuts.
Forearms, elbows, headbutts, low blows, kidney shots, rabbit punchs, hip bumps, pushing off with the shoulder, excessive clinching, pulling an opponent's head down, pulling an opponent's head down and hitting them, illegal wraps, illegal performance enhancers, etc.... Almost all the greats are guilty of using these tactics and more in order to win a fight... in fact, I think Hops probably uses almost all these cheats during the course of a single fight. :yep So a slight forearm shove is nothing new, and probably quite tame when we think of the worst things the all-time great fighters have done to get an advantage in there.
Ali: holding behind the head and neck and pulling Foreman: Shoving Holyfield and Hopkins: Headbutting Lewis and Wlad Klitschko: Draping themselves over the smaller man, pushing down on their backs. Trinidad: hip puncher Tyson: Elbows...and...other. Holmes: Thumbing Darchinyan: Throws people around like a rag doll Saddler: Literally everything Champions do break rules in plain sight as a habit even and refs either stop them or don't.
Lewis is guilty of one of the more dangerous cheating tactics out there... pulling his opponents' heads down and nailing them with uppercuts. He knocked Grant out cold with an uppercut that way.
Yeah, Lewis could work those tactics pretty well and get away with it. I like Lewis actually, but I know that's true.
Two wrongs don't make a right but in this case, it's fight so there's an exception to the rule. In my mind if the other guy is getting away with it then it must be legal therefore I'm going to attack in the same manner in order to level out the playing field. I don't like to play the role of an overprotective parent and point out all the small, dirty tactics. Let them fight. It's Floyd's opponent's job to find a way to even the score. Maybe Zab was doing just that when he low-blowed Floyd. Unfortunately it didn't get him a win.
It's ****ing boxing, not having a glass of wine with your girlfriend. FFS some of you guys are reaching
It's illegal but nothing wrong with it unless it's excessive or driven into the throat. Every fighter will bend the rules when they can get away with it.
He employs this shitty tactic when his opponents get close, he used it relentlessly in the Hatton fight. It's not legal but when none of the referees say anything about it why would you stop doing it, it's obviously effective.
