Edit: Darni187 in this thread made a good point, which I probably should have alluded to initially. It's very likely that Khan was referring to Oscar's earlier bouts when he was on his way up (Chavez); thus indicating that he (as only a youngster) will also do well in fighting past prime greats. Once reaching the peak of his powers and status, he may of course then have intentions of fighting the best. Who knows. Time will tell.

Yeah thats a dumb thing to say, why would you even make those thoughts public even if you believed it? Then again this is Khan, he's very naive.

I reckon he's wrong in this fight anyway. The Diaz win is probably as impressive as anything Malignaggi has ever done so I doubt he's on the slide. Still won't be a problem for Khan though.

@ Saying Oscar fought all the best fighters when they were in decline...yeah Trinidad Mosley Vargas and co were all in Decline. Ok early part of career he fought fighters who were nearer to end but come on!

Yeah in this particular fight, he's up against a guys who's probably at his best (in my opinion). Against Diaz Paulie looked very good, and definately not a guy who is there to be walked through. A good stiff test for Khan in his US debut, in which an impressive win will do well to enhance his name

Lol exactly. As Pug1list above has mentioned, Mayweather does the same. It's a wise way to develop not only your name, but your experience and ability too. Khan's fight with a faded Barrera would have been an even better learning curve if that cut never occured.

When he beat Barrera he could say he beat a modern day legend - you would have given him stick for that

Then he beat Kotelnick - a geuine world champion - not faded. He could say that and you would still give him stick for not fighting a tougher opponent

He comes out with - Ive beaten faded fighters - and YOU'RE STILL giving him stick. At least he's honest!

Give the kid a break, hes 22/23, coming to American now (unlike Calzaghe and Hatton after 40+ undefeated wins) to prove that he is a world class talent, let him beat Malignaggi (a light punching contender) before the matches with world classers like Bradley and Alexander get made

Khan's still a young fighter; he should be taking on all comers while climbing up the ranks. Guys like Mayweather, Pacquiao, etc have done this to some extent later in their careers after dominating many top fighters in their primes.

 

Dude I think you've misconstrued the intentions of my post. I agree with all those points you've made above, and recognize and appreciate his desire to make it big in the US. I'm also fully behind the approach that GBP appear to be taking in developing him, as one day (when he reaches his peak) he'll take on and beat the likes of Bradley, Maidana, and maybe Alexander (who's equally as special as him).

It's just some of the things he says outside the ring which could do with a bit of counceling. Whilst he's not a ***** in the mould of Mayweather or Malignaggi, he's in risk of becoming a joke with the few things he spouts.
