There have been so many people talking about this kid over the past year that it has been NAUSEATING. He has appeared on several PPV undercards and I have watched him sparingly. However, in his recent fight on the May/Mosley undercard I watched him Intently. And aside from his solid skill, decent fundamentals, I saw something that was even FAR MORE TELLING...He's HUGE for a Mexican fighter. His physique is enormous...Broad shulders, thick torso and solid arms. And it got me thinking...Has he always been this big? So I started checking...here is what I found.

This kid is 19 years and a Welterweight. Turned pro at 14 yrs old at 140lbs...DAMN. Has weighed-in over the Welterweight limit 8 times already. As big as he is physically, he is going to continue to get bigger with what is known in sports as "MATURE WEIGHT". Our bodies get bigger Naturally as we become more mature. In that fight on May 1st he weighed in at 150lbs and came into the ring on fight night at 157lbs (according to "the scene"). So therefore his future will be at 154lbs-168lbs...and at only 5'9, you have to be a SPECIAL KIND OF FIGHTER to be TOP-NOTCH, ELITE-LEVEL 5'9 Middleweight and beyond.

And something that was even far more DISTURBING about his performance was the fact that this kid who spent his entire career (33 fights) fighting at WW and above, was BLASTED in the 1st round and put on "***** Street" by a fighter that began his career at 122lbs, and was just fighting for a Vacant WBA LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE just 3 fights ago. Will Alvarez become a star? All I can say is that...there are far too many YOUNG TALENTED HARDER HITTING FIGHTERS from the ages 19-24 years at 154lbs-168lbs that if they get Alvarez on "***** Street" they WILL FINISH HIM.

Will he be a STAR??? His only chance IMO...is to stay at WW.

I think he has a real chance to be great. I ran into him many times in Vegas over the weekend and couldn't believe how you he looked/how young he is. His skillset is undeniable and with the right training and guidance, I could see him being a contender at 147-154 for many years.

Watching him fight, for a second I thought he was potentially the next JCC...but then I let reality sink in. The kid did get shocked early in the 1st round and he is a little plodding, but his attitude is incredible. He didn't panic himself into a loss, he adjusted and tried to learn from his mistakes. Can't blame him for being inexperienced

I'd like to see this kid succeed because guys like him are what boxing needs. There was once a time when ambitious talent like this wasn't so rare.

he has some solid tools, a lot of xp for his age, and looks like he has some heart

it should be interesting to see him over the next year or two, but he looks pretty solid, imo

I will be watching him. His fight, IMO was easily the most entertaining one of the whole card

Nope, he will never be the star that the Mexican fans are hyping him to be.
