on youtube there is a clip: mayweather cheating. where some of the roughhouse tactics he used in the Hatton fight is shown... The problem is the refeeres who´s let these things happen, time and time again!!! When it´s a majortitle fight,i sometimes don´t belive what i see... IMO elbows and headbutts used to hurt your opponent,is just as bad as loading your gloves...I know things can happen in a fight, but if a fighter continues to headbutt or using elbows in a fight,DQ should happen more often. So we can have cleaner fights... That´s what Mayweather want´s too...To clean up the sport............

So do foreign countries ....remember the biggest cheat in sports history was robbing Roy Jones Jr ...of his Gold Metal.

If you play a sport completely by the books without bending any rules to get an edge in competition: (Not talking about PEDs)

    1) You're not very good.

    2) See point #1.

Examples of this: A shirt pull in soccer to get an extra step on somebody. Not legal, but often done anyways if the referee has a bad angle to see the foul.

Another: A lineman who gets away with a small hold before the official sees it on the football field. You think linemen aren't doing dirty ****? The best lineman know how to foul and get away with it.

Another: Evander Holyfield... not really much else to say there. Holyfield is a great, but dirty fighter. Hopkins as well. Nobody has ever accused the fight game of being a "clean" sport however.

Another: Spinning hard to the basket in basketball with your arms up and elbows out. Yea, somebody might be there and they could get blasted by your elbow, but you are allowed to pivot and turn with the basketball. Is it a legal play? Borderline. A bit dirty? Absolutely. \

Another: Coming in with a hard slide at 2nd base with your cleats up to break up the double-play. Legal? Sure. Dirty? Absolutely, you could take the 2nd baseman out and possibly injure him.

Either way, Floyd does not use his elbow as a weapon, and that is why he gets away with it. You are allowed to use the forearm and elbow for defense. As long as you don't swing it and hit somebody with it (the forearm or elbow), it is not illegal. He does push off in the clinch, but that's in the clinch where a little pushing is generally allowed to let the fighters work out of it.

    Overall, its a gray area.

it has nothing to do with countries... It´s in the hand of the referee... Some referees should be banned for life, because they aren´t strict enough IMO.The first time a ref. see a fighter use head or elbow in a fight,it should cost one point deduction.Third time disqualification... simple as that.
That would makes the fighter think twice before using these tactics... Thats why the ****ing referee is there for fu.. sake!!!

A referee is not allowed to do that. It would have to be an over-the-top and blatant foul for a referee to deduct a point without ANY prior warnings. The foul would have to be completely premeditated and deliberate.

General rule: You get 3 soft warnings (minor fouls) before a point deduction. You get 1 hard warning (major foul) before a point deduction.

Because there is grey areas as you said, the eyes shouldnt be closed!!!
In the Hatton-Mayweather fight for example.Joe cortez should after 1 warning, start taking points for using that elbow!! as the rules recommend...He could do that a couple of times, and if THE FIGHTER desides to carry on with using elbows, well DQ is the risk they take!!

Some referees could be a LOT better!!!

It is a soft warning. It is not a major foul. You can't take a point away after only 1 soft warning.

Sorry, as much as I agree that it is a little dirty, it is not major enough to warrant a point deduction. Because Floyd does not use the forearm or elbow with malicious intent, and is generally using it for defensive purposes, it is not an illegal move.

It's a gray area, and completely up to the referee on whether or not they view it as a foul. Completely opinion based and a different referee will give you a different answer every time about this issue.

Well a headbutt that causes a bad cut for instance is NOT a minor foult IMO..It can change the outcome of the fight!!If you see at the Ward-Kessler fight, there was giving a warning or nothing, regardless that Kessler was cut 3 times by headbutts!! The referee could do a hell lot better than that IMO,or something is completly wrong with the rules!!
But offcouse your right with one hard warning before point deduction:good

forearm, not elbow. Plus he pushes it not wacking people with it. It is like when fighter leads with their head. it is not illegal but will get warned and warned floyd gets.
