H... Correct.. You should be inducted into a HoF mate.

    10 points.

Mate, I hope to meet old Tony Madigan later this year, as he's being inducted into the Oz HoF.. Just a matter of sorting out some finer details to determine weather he's available to show up for the induction.

He's truly a genuine star of Australian Boxing.

hh, beat me to the punch..Tony Madigan...
I saw Tony Madigan vs Cassius Clay, finals at MSG in 1960...It was a close dec. won by Clay, who did a lot of backpedaling...In our wildest dreams did I, my dad,or the audience, envision Cassius Clay as a future Heavyweight Champion...At that time Tony Madigan had a better porfolio,as an amateur fighter...I recall Madigan forced the issue...Ah precious memories...b.b.

Burt, your memories are like fresh gems to us youngsters mate.

Guys like yourself, HH and John Garfield are incredible. No sleep until you release every possible memory.. OK, some memories are best left unsaid for fear of incriminating a few gals..

Madigan had a reputation of being a 'looker' and a fighter.

With some good luck, I hope to write a few lines about his own memories shortly.

    He didn't need to.

He was highly intelligent, was a successful businessman and basicallly had more altenatives availiable to him for a career outside the ring than most fighters.

Plus he very much fought for amateur glory instead of the riches a professional career offered.Apparently he was offered big money and a guaranteed title shot within 18 months to turn pro after the Rome Olympics but declined due to business commitments and his age (nearly 30).

Looking at how his life has turned out one has to think he made the right decision.
