HBO has no intention to go to ROMANIA on July 24th.....the date is reserved for GAMBOA vs TBA....it will be a split feed.....Juan Manuel Lopez getting the other spot!.....that best Bute will get is highlights on the outcome of his fight during the broadcast!....they did something similar years ago with Kessler vs Beyer when they shown about 30 sec of the fight!

 

**** Brinkley, this would be a total mismatch. Brinkley is at best a journeyman. A fight with Brinkley of with the shell of Jeff Lacy would give infinite ammo to all the haters and ****s around here.

 

But in that case, why is Bute fighting on the 24 July?

I didn't specify top ten or top anything. I just said "top". Setting cutoffs has never appealed to me. There are the handful of fighters (usually a couple dozen) who are the very best and the order is usually largely interchangeable and subjective. I'd entertain arguments for Bute at #7 with the same open mind I'd entertain arguments for him at #23. It doesn't really matter. The point is that he's among the best talents in the sport. Putting a number on it is kind of pointless. It's why I don't ever dignify the "Who's #1 Floyd or Manny??????" BS with a response. It makes no sense and means nothing.

 

Up to a point, of course, I agree. But even though this is no precise science, reductio ad absurdum type arguments can be used to put Bute within a certain range such that, the closer to the outer reaches of the range, the less convincing the case. Using such methods, I'd put Bute for example around the mid-teens mark and Dawson around the Top 10 mark. When I see people putting Bute in the top 10, I think that's bad, but when I see them putting Dawson in the Top 3, I lose a lot of respect for them.

Personally, Dawson has proven himself very good over the course of his seniors tour, but there are still lingering questions that he'll need to decisively answer vs. the Pascals and Clouds. I don't necessarily see even a silhouette of the top ten range for him, personally. For me, the two are probably just switched from where you have them...Bute a little closer to ten, and Dawson to fifteen/twenty. Based on how talented each has looked in relation to the quality of their opposition. Of course, we could both be in for a rude awakening when either one faces a prime top fiver in their divisions.

 

Dawson looks amazing for the first couple of rounds... and not so hot in the last few rounds, but he's getting better as he becomes more experienced. I still doubt his chin is very good, and frankly, to be an elite level fighter, you need a very good chin, no matter how good everything else is. But even if his chin is very good, I still doubt that he is intelligent and mentally strong enough to find and to implement the right strategy for 12 full rounds against top level fighters who can implement 2-3 different strategies during a fight very well. He's no Mayweather, Chad... but listening to many people here on ESB, once Pacman and Mayweather retire, Dawson is THE man. I can't see it... I just can't. But Cloud and Pascal don't have what it takes to answer these questions. It takes an explosive puncher who is skilled enough to land...can't think of anyone at 175lbs; Bute is the best bet for me from 168lbs, but he's not a great fit either...a combination of Ward and Abraham would be great!

As to Bute... let's see him against a skilled, fast, athletic fighter before putting him close to the Top 10.

 

A french boxing site talked to Bika yesterday. He's pissed about Brinkley cancelling the fight. His promoter and Bute's one think Bika will probably be declared the mandatory. He would accept to fight Bute in Romania and fight and would like to fight in Quebec city on May the 28th.

 

HBO had plans to feature BUTE that date...on a delayed broadcast but they wanted to see who the opponent is going to be?!....They might have gone there for unification vs Stieglitz....but with that not happening.....they will decide if they show highlights or not...once the opponent is confirmed!....in the meantime it does look like anything is signed over in Romania....and time flies by......!....moreover I don't think IBOX would want to push that date anyway...it might interfere with a planned event in the fall in MONTREAL!......BUTE might end up only fighting twice this year....which it would be a shame!
