That is exactly why i said it would be 50-50 at 160... 168, Roy beats Hagler. Stylistically I think Roy has an advantage, and had a lot of power, lightning speed, crazy angles, he could leap halfway across the ring and knock you out. No one could just walk through all those shots, especially when they didn't know where they were coming from. That is part of the reason Roy was so great, his style was never seen before, it dumbfounded Toney completely, and one point he raised his head up and did not know where Roy was in the ring.

Hopkins ( not nearly in his prime) Toney( struggled tremendously to make weight) and Ruiz ( just ). I give Jones a lot of credit for beating all of them, but when they are mentioned in the same sentence as Hagler at his best (especially the time when Jones fought them) then there is just no comparison. Jones has a history of struggling against southpaws as well. I think Hagler takes it to him.

You can't discredit fighters best wins like that, it can be done to every fighter that ever laced them up. The fact is, Jones beat Hopkins and Toney, Hopkins was unknown at the time, but Jones was not so much at his prime either. Toney was the best SMW in the world, pound for pound best on some peoples lists, great win, Toney also went on to have a great career after Roy spanked him.

Can you name the southpaws Roy ever struggled with or are you just talking out of your ass? Tarver???? who else?

You also have to remember against Ruiz, he was a belt holder, outweighed Jones by 30 pounds, had a lot of reach on him.... Maybe it is not that great of a win for a heavyweight, but for someone so much smaller, it was a great win. Especially since Ruiz has also beat some good heavyweights and stuck around a long time since then.

Then refute it. Tell me which welterweight troubles Roy, and when. Tell me what HW titleholder Hagler beats. I'm very interested.

Hagler is a Middleweight...he is recogized as the #1 Middleweight of All-Time. Jones went up to Heavyweight and won the title...very impressive, but what has this got to do with Hagler v Jones? Jones will win because he moved up weightclasses?
Hagler had problems with Duran and Hearns...are these not seen as ATG's aswell?

And Hagler overrated? Me thinks you need to watch more boxing...

Hagler eventually breaks him down and knoks him out. jones' chin would be the problem here. and hagler is just an animal at this weight. hagler KO.

Yeah and i also said i give Roy a lot of credit for beating all of them. That's why its good to read entire posts. My point is that while they were good wins, its would be laughable to mention any of their names ( especially at the time that Jones beat them) in the same sentence as Hagler. The poster asked if anyone Roy beat was as good as Hagler, and the answer is no way. Would you take a young Hopkins, overweight Toney and John Ruiz over Hagler at his best?

Lou Devalle ( Dropped Jones for the first time) Eric Harding ( who was giving Roy all he could handle and making him tentative before his injury occurred) and many people (including myself) believe that he lost to Tarver all 3 times.

That's true, but what doesn't look good is the fact that Ruiz lost to almost every good fighter( and by a landslide) that came up in weight (Jones, Toney and stopped by Haye). It was definitely a good win though, although mentioning him with Hagler even at middleweight would be funny.

Roy Jones wins by a small margin....similar to how Sugar Ray Leonard's win over Hagler. I see the see same scenario; Haler having difficulty with Roy's speed.

    Roy Jones by Split Decision.

Both great fighters and both one of my all-time favorites. But I have to go with Hagler on this one considering he's got the tougher chin while Roy's chin is very suspect. Roy would have some moments in the fight until he gets tagged, and he will, and like a shark smelling fresh blood, Hagler would finish him off like he finished off Hearns and Mugabi.

This thread is a joke, and if you picked Hagler, you're a joke. This isn't a difficult question. Hagler has no chance.

What is absolutely amazing is that people bring up the Hagler-Leonard fight as if it would have a bearing on a fantasy matchup of Jones-Hagler in their respective primes.Leonard wanted nothing to do with Hagler until he was certain that Hagler was shot, which he obviously was.
