I think Bugner is being a little loose with the truth here. I think Joe turned pro just a year or 2 before Liston died so your talking bout him being at least twice Bugners age. Im not saying they didnt spar as i know nothing about it but your talking about an 18-19yr old greenhorn sparring a depleted 40yr old former champ. Remember a story on the Ali/Holmes sparring. Apparently Ali was going through the motions for a few days and Holmes was giving his all. Larry was alledgedly bad-mouthing Ali to the other sparring partners at the camp saying Ali was finished,old man,legs had gone etc etc. Word got back to Ali about it and the next time they sparred Ali raised his game. At the end of the round Ali went back to his corner saying loudly 'my legs have gone'. After dishing out more punishment,at the end of the next round Ali went back to the corner saying ' ive lost my speed' or words to that effect. After 4 or 5 rounds of this, Holmes twigged on that Ali had gotten word back on what Larry had been saying.

does anyone know how common it is for fighters to prefer not to spar such as joe calzaghe? for me i hate boxing with headgear it seriously inhibits my movements and when u are dodging punches the inches of headgear make the difference between getting hit and not getting hit
That story is bull****. Owoh headbutted Calzaghe on several occasions and cut him. Calzaghe responded by beating the **** out of him.
