Yet, Mayweather used that tactic vs Marquez who went two whole fights without falling into a clinch against Manny Pacquiao. The thread starter suggested that Mayweather uses the tactic to get distance, but what he really does is render an opponents left hook useless with that tactic. Mayweather presses that foremarm on an opponents shoulder, and does'nt give him free reign to unleach the hook, and if the opponent finds the way to throw the hook anyways, Mayweather just lifts the the elbow slightly and the punch ends up hitting his arm or elbow. ......if you hit a mans elbow with a shot, it can hurt your hand. There is'nt anything wrong with using the tactic to block shots, but its what Mayweather does before,(driving his arm and elbow into a fighters neck and shoulder area) when he's at close quarters thats illegal. Fighters get away with it all the time, not just Mayweather, but I do wonder why the heck a referee would warn a fighter about doing that, but not have the balls to do anything about it when it continues. .......and btw, Mayweather is'nt to blame here, its the referee. If I'm a fighter and can get away with it, I'd use the same tactic if it suited me. I said the same thing to Zakman countless times when he was arguing that John Ruiz was a cheat and the worst heavyweight champ in history. Hey, if I'm John Ruiz with his skill, I'd have done exactly the same thing he was doing with his grab and hold routine. The refs are to blame, not the fighters. The refs start to take points off for these infractions, believe me, those tactics will stop.
Either have some rules and enforce them every time, or have no rules. Inconsistent refereeing plagues most sports and ruins some of them as a spectacle.
Lil Kid? I am sure I am older than you are. I didn't say you were wrong. I said it shouldn't be done. So I am not wrong about anything....Floyd fluffer
