You serious? Haha who was it but I would say martin ward was a good guess... Although I did put him on his arse in the amateurs and with the smaller gloves and no headguard he wouldn't be getting back up
He says you got a hometown decision in Westport and he would take you for the British or Irish title anyday! Step aside Frampton, step aside Maher, step aside O'Brien, Kavanagh, Farrell et al - my new favourite fighter is Martin 'The Truth' Ward!! This content is protected
Let him talk... But all I will say is he was put on his arse by a then bantam weight then willy casey smashed him aswell haha
he is a busy high octane fighter but he certainly doesnt have the 'maximum banjo' in the back pocket. He didnt put Kassai away either. He said all his Grandparents are from Galway so thats that box ticked.
I was at the McGuigan-Taylor contest also. I was in the balcony, in an unreserved seat [ 25 notes, a steep price for a first year apprentice plumber].That night was the last time I seen Barry box live, his last fight in The kings Hall I've been going to fights in The Kings Hall for around 27 years [ from basically a school kid], and obviously the McGuigan fights hold fond memories, but the best fight I've seen live in the Kings Hall or anywhere else was McAuley-Basa 1. This fight was brutally compelling, with several knockdowns and fierce exchanges, and a passionate crowd willing Dave boy on to glory. I remember Kelvin Smart, the little Welsh man who was described as a James Cagney look-alike. Hugh Russell is the only boxer in history to hold the British bantamweight title, and then move down to claim the flyweight title, which he did that night against Smart. It shows you how naive I was in those days[mcGuigan era], when I can't remember anything about the bars. Fighting Irish, there's more to boxing knowledge than boxrec. Tony Tucker was meant to box in The kings Hall that night, in actual fact The Irish News ran an article about Tucker meeting up with an old west Belfast amateur foe from an Ireland-USA clash. But Tuckers fight was called off at the last minute, a big disappointment. Anyway I'm looking forward to the Team Alio show tonight, and hope to have a chat and a pint with some of the regulars on this thread. I know Gasman, Paddy, Ultimate buzz, Gareth and Steve Weller will be there, so enjoy.
I thought Ward was up at FW these days anway. Look, Carlos will **** him up badly. He's ugly enough as it is so the last thing he needs is a good hiding but maybe it will teach him to keep his trap shut! Also, his sequin shorts make him look like a steamer. Frampton KO1
Don't know if any of ye heard but Billy 'Spider' Kelly passed away yesterday in Derry after a long illness. Ard dheis Dé go raibh a anam. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/8669739.stm This content is protected
Ardy - I want to re-watch those McAuley and Russell fights. Although I was very critical of the Eastwood book - hooked on the jab, I really enjoyed reading the chapters on McAuley - makes me want to rewatch those wars he had with Bassa and Blanco. I really can't remember the Bassa fights it has been that long since I watched them and I only saw one of the Blanco fights. I was reading that McAuley was fortunate to get the win in the first fight and was robbed in the rematch? What do you recall Ardy? Actually, on a related point - just reading about Russell and McAuley and the wars that they were in - they did the right thing in retiring when they did. By simply looking at their records on boxrec - you would think that they might have retired prematurely, but I was reminded by reading again about both careers in the Eastwood book - that they fought in so many wars. If you compare that with what McCullough is doing now - I think it puts it into proper context. McCullough, although has a great chin, took a lot of shots and has been in a lot of wars himself. I worry about his health if he continues, and was very deflated to hear that he will come back in Prizefighter.
Carlos, can you do me a favour and ask Barry McGuigan to rate Lucy Kennedys tits out of 10, please. I saw him checking them out on tv before and would like to know what he thought of them. Many thanks in advance.
