who is greater, Bernard Hopkins or Joe Calzaghe?

Hopkins was picked to lose against to naturally smaller fighters. One that used to be a WW and the other fighting 2 divisions above his fighting weight for the first time. Remember Hopkins debuted at LHW

Hopkins wins on boxing record even with his losses and draws.

H2H in their prime...............it's close and competitive. Hopkins probably edges it, but Calzaghe's workrate and adaptability would always cause him problems.

I really don't understand how guys can bend over backwards to cast in a good light each and every one of Calzaghe's wins, degrade all of Hopkins', and say...."look..... now compare". No offense. but how do you guys expect to be taken seriously and objectively?

Definitely Bhops. Calzaghe should of at least given him the rematch or face Dawson before retiring. That would of made his legacy less questionable.

 

People criticize Hopkins for fighting smaller men, when that is inevitable in this sport, since putting on muscle mass has been going on since day one.

Look at the other great Middleweights, Carlos Monzon and Marvin Hagler what are their top wins, but does anyone say things like they were not great they just fought smaller men.

De La Hoya and Wright were definately blown up oppositions, the only credit I give Hopkins against Hoya is that he knocked him out thats all.


Pavlik always looked like a big Middleweight and fought at a catchweight with Hopkins at 170. He fought above 160 enough times before and was the heavy favorite going into the fight vs Hopkins

Trinidad was unbeaten Middleweight champ.

Hopkins vs Calzaghe, and Hopkins vs Taylor 2
and he still made them close, if not won them both.

pavlik was made favourite coz Hopkins looked bad against Calzaghe, and Pavlik beat the man twice, who beat the man twice.

Eubank took the fight at short notice and struggled to make 168 for a while and wasnt the huge betting favourite.

i used to really rate calzaghe ya know.

he cleaned out domestically and beat almost everyone smw had to offer.

but due to circumstance he never got to fight, ottke, beyer nor toney.

hopkins beat every middleweight at the time, infact the one man hopkins didnt fight is also toney.

since calzaghe has retired he has made him self out to be something he aint.

you know he could easily have losses on his resume to reid and hopkins.

hopkins is far far greater in terms of career.

h2h joe is pretty competitive with anyone, he has speed and stamina in abundance, he has the southpaw stance, and in his prime he could punch solidly. the fact is, he is untested throughout his prime.

yes he beat eubank, lacy, mitchell and kessler. but the marquee fights always evaded him. i personally thought he beat hopkins, but i was uber biased cos he's english. i have yet to rewatch the fight so maybe if i did i might score it different this time round.

hopkins beat joppy, dlh, tito, wright, tarver, pavlik, holmes, eastman, johnson.

the resumes are in no way comparable. i accept that calzaghe did the best he could with what he had, but victories over toney, beyer and ottke would make it so much more impressive. as it is he dont have those victories.

i think hopkins takes a rematch. and i think prime hopkins, or the one who showed up against pavlik, beats calzaghe
