If this figure is accurate, i am a little surprised!
i did expect a lot higher ppv numbers!

Especially considering pac-cotto reportedly did over 1.5 Million buys! and oscar-floyd did 2.4 Million!!!

I expected floyd-ssm to do way more than 1.5Million.

Even oscar mentioned he thought the fight will smash the ppv record he set with floyd!

Is the 1.2 million mark lower, higher or about the number you expected for this fight?

Say what you will but the Margarito scandal contributed a lot to this.

Most of the pundits gave Mosley no shot, seeing how exposed Margarito was even prior to the opening bell. He was completely out of the fight psychologically.

Everyone took a step back (except the hardcore Mosley fans) and looked at his fight with Mayorga and Cotto.

Had the news about Margarito's wraps not made it public the odds would have been much closer.

You know i had a discussion with a friend who was impressed with the Mosely performance against Margo, and i made a point of saying the same as you mentioned. Margo was in no psychological state to fight. i mean he just got caught loading his GLOVES! thats why i never rated the mosely win too highly and as a result gave him no shot at beating mayweather

It's not about Floyd or Shane, it's about the demographics of boxing. Latino's are the main purchasers of the sport and the difference in numbers between Cotto- Pac verse Floyd - Mosely reflect this.

I totally agree with this. Which is also why the Marquez/Floyd fight did so well in terms of numbers.

    How so?

because Pac did slightly better numbers with a bigger draw?

Yeah, but come on, they pulled out all the promotional stops for this one. Say what you will about GBP, but I find them leagues ahead of Top Rank in creating pre-fight hype and aligning strategically with endorsers and sponsors.

I thought it would have done more, I was thinking around the 1.7 mark.

it's still a decent result on the face of it but there's a definite feel of anti climax after Schaefer's daft prediction of 3 million buys.

1.2 million buys would put it in joint 12th in the all time ppv buys with the first Holyfield vs Lewis fight.

Bull****. The general public that was marketed with all the Superbowl/World Series (or whatever, i'm British) appearances would not really realise the significance of the wraps incident.

With all Schaefers big talk i expected more. Especially with 2 american fighters.

I like to know how much the movie theatres impacted those numbers...Maybe people decided that going to the movies was the cheaper and more practical route

Still, I don't see how anything over a million can be considered a failure. No matter how you slice it, Mayweather is the face of Boxing

    Agree.

It's a great result but a let down from what was projected.
