Vitali Klitschko vs Floyd Patterson

First of all I take Floyd as he is ,6'and 190lbs at best.Not some mythical steroid enhanced creature who may add 20lbs with substances,they would not make him any taller , give him a longer reach, nor put concrete in his chin.Floyd was kod by Ingo, a smaller inferior version of Vitali,with a much softer chin.This is a terrible matchup for Floyd imo.he would have extreme difficulty landing anything significant on Vitali ,and I very much doubt his leaping left hook would dent the big guy's chin if he did.Vitali is not the one punch bomber he is sometimes made out to be ,but he hits as hard or harder than many of the men that dropped Floyd.Vitali has a top chin ,controls range very well and has learned quite a bit of ring craft.Floyd's chief asset ,speed is offset by his size in comparison to his adversary,and coming up out of that crouching peek a boo he was often nailed and dropped.Floyd would have to get inside beat a quick tattoo on the giant then get out,he had good power but not heavy duty and Vitali is extra durable, chinwise.

I dont see Floyd lasting the distance.

 

I have to disagree. Vitali has a quick step back, and can cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time.

 

He's still not as mobile as Johansson against Patterson.

Because so many people have picked Patterson, right?

I don't see how Roy Harris is so horrible in comparison to 260 lb harpooned whale Kirk Johnson, pacifist Kevin Johnson, Chris Arreola or the awesome Tyson conqueror Danny Williams.

 

Roy Harris would not make the top ten at heavyweight today. I would pick all of the above names to beat him.

 

floyd would probably get some success with his superior speed and head movement but I seriously think he would ultimately get caught by vitali but there's a very good chance that Floyd may be able to outpoint vitali with his speed and head movement.

 

Harris to me looks more impressive on film than the likes of Danny Williams. They obviously have around 60 pounds of weight on him, but then so does Klitschko on Patterson. Harris was a better fighter than I expected him to be after watching films of his fights. I imagine most have only seen him get knocked out by Liston.

 

Harris has little power ( 9 ko's in 36 fights ), and wasn't very big or fast. He was no match at all for Liston.

Modern heavies good power or skills would catch up to Harris or walk though him. This includes over weight fighters such as Kirk Johnson or Danny Williams.

In terms of resume, I think Williams > Harris. Williams defeated Meehan, Sprott, an older Tyson, A. Harrison, Grammer, and Skelton.

 

Agreed. Harris was good enough to be ranked in a poor time line for heavies ( post Marciano and pre Liston ). I do think Patterson like most champions selected some easy marks for title defenses, and of course avoided Liston for a while.

Don't get me wrong. I like Patterson. In fact I think he is under rated by some who think Charles and Walcott were forces. IMO, Patterson was just as good, and in some ways better than Charles and Walcott.

 

I would say he was every bit as difficult a challenge for a 190 lb man as the likes of Danny Williams, Kirk Johnson and others were for a 250 lb man. Not saying Harris was anything special at all but I've seen worse contenders than him. He was unbeaten at the time and top ranked in the division. Whether he would be top ranked now is speculation. I'm sure he could do some damage as a cruiserweight.

As a longterm Williams fan, I can assure you that not only was he not a credible challenger, all the fighters you listed mean little. Gammer?!? Harrison is abysmal. Sprott a journeyman. Skelton showed chin against a not great Chagaev.

Skelton and Harrison have in turn lost to 10 fight novice Rogan. Mendoza, Williams cannot be made out to be decent mate :rofl

I will say Williams has got a MASSIVE heart though. Anyone who hasn't seen his fights with Potter and Alrich should check 'em out.
