Now, for all the Pong fans on the British, I have to say on my recent venture into Wonjongland not too many people were into Pong. I asked a lot of Thai blokes about boxing, and about the arguably top 25 alltime Flyweight Wonjongkam, and some of them might have heard of Khaosai Galaxy (but not his superior Brother, Khaokor, like Wonjongkam hard-hitting southpaws) but I raved on in highly-Thai-accented English about this fight, the first in Wonjongkams series with Daisuke Naito.

The awkward Japanese Naito won the 3rd fight in their 4 fight series, and the 4th was a draw. As he was largely competitive in his narrow loss to Kameda last year, a fifth fight should be in order to see who really is the best Fly out of these two Asian warriors.

But this is their first fight. 19-04-02; in Thailand, Wonjongkam; 43-2 (26), making the 5th defence of his WBC title vs Naito; 19-0-2(14).

    Enjoy :good

Also, we were deprived of a great fight in around 2005 between Arce and Wonjongkam. Arce was interim champ but I'm not sure why it never came off??!?

    Would've been a war.

JUst got caught sweet as a nut.

Kos, any thoughts on how Arce-Wonjongkam would've panned out in 2005?

Wonjongkam won the second on a technical decision. I ain't seen it so not sure whether it was stopped due to a clash of heads or injury or something.

Naito won the 3rd fight; looking to get hold of that at the moment.

    Hopefully the subtitles will remain embedded; this gives a good pre-fight build up for the 4th fight and explanation of their rivalry by the looks of it;

The fight which follows, which I will put on here as well, was a draw, and worth watching. Arguably two of the best Flys from the 00's.

Flea I watched this fight today completly unaware of this thread.

Naito comes out as usual with his unorthodox 'leaping' in and out kinda style. It looks fairly scrappy and then Naito stays inside slightly too long and bang a left hand - right hook combo (IIRC) Real nice shots.

I also watched the 3rd fight, again completly unaware.

Naito really looks good in this as he leaps into range with them wide left hooks and straight rights. Ponsalkek finds him abit awkward and has to time him abit, his jab does good work aswell as his stright left, but Naito is in and out abit too much for him to really do damage. Really good performance by Naito and it is a quality fight, I love the last round.

I also watched Pongsaklek vs Kameda. He does fairly well in this. He keeps it rangy with his long shots and that makes it arder for Kameda to land his right hook. He keeps his shots down the middle and lands first on kameda. Competitive but clear for wong.

I havent seen the other fights of the series but will have a look for them. I still need to watch Naito's defeat to Kameda.

Fair do's. I see Arce's freewheeling style seeing him ship more punches; Wonjongkam winning a close, competitive decision.

I have found the second fight, will try to download it. Aswell as the 4th.

Its an interesting rivalry, I like the clash of styles. You have the more conventional boxer-puncher in Pongsaklek who has the power to hurt Naito, but then you have the unorthodox stylist in Naito who is awkward and fast and looks to hold a slight stylistic advantage over Wong.

Such an awkward proposition is Naito.

Chang vs Wonjongkam then? Does Wonjongkam last the distance?!?!?

That introductory video does indeed give a brief synopsis of all the fights in their rivalry. The 2nd fight looked to be heating up until that nasty cut.

Naito, on fighting Pong for the 3rd time (when he eventually won) 'At first I thought 'not again'. But I had no choice'

Odd character is Naito. He had a good shout in the Kameda fight I thought.

I look forward to seeing the 3rd fight; Naito seems to put on a good showing; his awkward timing and wide angled shots giving Pong more grief than he seemed to before.

Again Thai journeyman Liempetch Sor Veerapol.

Coincedence. Won by TKO.I assume he'll make a run at super fly.
