How can Dana hold the fighters to such high standards, and then he himself drag the reputation of the sport through the mud by sanctioning a ****ing joke like Couture vs Toney? White should either cut himself for making that insane mismatch, or treat guys like Daley with more leniency. The hypocritical **** himself has already dealt the UFC a hammer blow with that fight, even if he doesn't realize it yet.
Daley should be cut and arrested. You guys who are defending him sound ******ed. Koscheck being a dick does not justify assault. Koscheck being a dick helps sell tickets and Koscheck is allowed to say whatever he wants to Daley, that's just the way the civilized world works. MMA is a sport and the UFC is it's premiere promotional body. There is absolutely no excuse possible for sucker punching another fighter that late after the bell. It IS different than fighters who keep striking in their match against guys who are out or on their way out. It may be very unsportsmanlike, but fighters don't have to stop fighting until the ref stops the fight. Just because both of the guys are professional fighters does not make it okay or excusable for one to strike at the other when they are not in a professional fight. It tarnishes the sport. I'm glad Daley was cut and I hope the commission brings the hammer down on him.
I think Dana is looking at the bigger picture i.e. the image of the UFC/MMA. People make mistakes, I'm not sure if one stupid move should ruin a guys career. Dana said that Daley acted like he didn't give a **** and that made it much worse for himself.
Yeah sure he is. If Daley was making Dana millions he'd think twice. He has one rule for his superstars and another for the plebians like Daley.
That doesn't matter. That would be no excuse if it happened in a bar after the fight. There is no difference. Once the fight is over... it's over. Not only is it an extremely cowardly act to tap someone on their shoulder and sucker punch them... but it's also illegal. No professional fighter should have to worry about his safety after the fight is over. **** Daley, he doesn't deserve to compete as a professional anymore.
Though Daley is in the wrong he got wound up and I'm sure we can all say we act irrationally when wound up.
If you got wound up and sucker punched your fellow employee at work, you would be fired. Especially if your boss and all of your customers were standing there watching.
Should Henderson have been arrested for striking an unconscious Bisping? Or Rampage for the plethora of blows he landed on an unconscious Wanderlei?
a double standard is dana's operating modi. the referees need to do a better job. if a guy has a history of lay n pray, it should be in the ref's mind to stand him up unless he's working subs or ground and pound. koscheck didn't do either and the last round takedown with four minutes left had me screaming since I knew the fight was over, and i was about to waste four minutes watching him do nothing.
The problem with this is that Koscheck was relatively active on the ground, he just wasn't effective at anything other than controlling Daley.
It's not the same at all. Until the ref stops the fight it is UNSPORTING but not ILLEGAL to continue to fight your opponent. Also WAY WAY too much is made of Hendo's strike. It was like one second after he landed a standing strike and he followed Bisping down. That was in the heat of the moment before the ref stopped the fight. It isn't the same at all.
