lol @ the dude commentating on the vid. sounds like a hormotional individual LOL. it was momentum that carried cintron. this should have a rematch asap
Joe- Gabriel Montoya here. We've spoken via email. I'm curious what the point is of coming into a forum where Kermit is not present to defend himself? Another question I have is why was Kermit rushed into the first Margarito fight when he was coming off hand surgery? As I understand it he only had about 3 weeks to use that hand in camp. Correct me if I am wrong. Last question: Now that Margarito was caught using illegal hand wraps, do you believe he cheated in the fights with Kermit and if so, who was the one supervising Margarito's hand wrapping and why didn't they catch him? Also, yes you guys got him to 25-1 with 23 KOs (as I understand it, you were with him through the Margarito fight and one after so its only fair to include the whole record not the 24-0 with 22 KOs which is inaccurate if you are talking about the whole story), why is it that now he is a better fighter? He seems to have improved defense, head movement, better punching technique, and more of an inside game which he really didn't have with you and Marshall. I ask this because I'm wondering, isn't it possible he simply was not happy with you guys and felt, like many fighters do, that perhaps he'd be better off with someone else? I'm friends with Manny Steward. We talk often both on and off the record. He's never given me a story like the ones you have given me. I know several people within Savannah's Gym. Not one has given me a story resembling the ones you are printing here. I'm not saying you are lying or that these stories are untrue. I'm simply wondering why that is. No disrespect intended. I figure since you've opened up this discussion here, you'd be amenable to answering these here.
Outside of the General forum, the majority of posters are boxers of various levels. In the General, I'd guesstimate that a dozen or so television quality boxers are lurking here on any given day. During interviews, there've been many instances of boxers bringing up ESB when talking about criticism by their fans. Your post is more than a bit inflammatory; I'm not sure what kind of response you're expecting to those questions. There have been articles on ESB proper with leaked stories about Steward's frustrations with Kermit that pretty much mirror Pastore's.
I gotta say, this thread is absolutely epic. Good **** :good Some of Conditioner's stories are a great read
They are just questions. On any given forum there are boxers lurking. Not sure what relevance that has to my questions. I don;t see my questions as any more inflammatory that what Joe is revealing here. In fact I don't see it that way. I identified myself and asked questions to Joe directly. Having emailed with him before, I'm confident he won't take it as me attacking him. I would hope he didn't take it that way because I'm not. I'm simply asking questions that are relevant to the subject matter he brought up.
The point is that I Marshall and i have had to constantly defend ourselves from FALSE accusations made by Kermit, and him presenting FALSE circumstances as to why he lost the first Margarito fight. As for Kermit not being here to defend himself... there is NO DEFENSE from the truth. You do a few interviews, and you feel you know him well enough to pass judgment on the things that I have said? The things that are fact. Not opinions. Kermit lived with my fiance and I for over 3 years. He lived with Marshall for about 6 months. We were with him bascialy 24/7 for 5 yrs. We took the financial burden that life presents off his shoulders so he could pursue his career 100%. which is what I felt it was going to take for him to make up for his late start. Kermits responsibilities in life consisted of training, fighting, and resting. The three of us had a great relationship. Kermit often bragged how had he not met us he didn't know where his life would have went, and that he would finish his career with us. I paid all of Kermits expenses. I often paid both his purse, and his opponents purse to insure he would stay busy. I also paid him a bonus if he got a knockout. I didn't take money from his purse until we signed with Main Events even though I was contractual entitled to it. I saw bigger and better things for us all down the road, and at that time he need the money much more then I did. Did Kermit tell you how I drove him to all his doctors appointments. Took him to therapy. Paid the expenses for these trips. Did he tell you how I researched the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act to find a way to force Main Events to renegotiate his original promotional contract. Main Events violated there obligation to provide full financial disclosure to Kermit. Did he tell you that when we walked out of main events after negotiating the contract Kermit left with a 40k re-signing bonus with another 80k on the way, and a multi million dollar guarantee if he won the fight with Margarito. Did he tell you that I negotiated that guarantee to be payable regardless of if Main Events got him fights or not. which meant that if main events did not start promoting him more heavily they then they would have to foot the bill themselves. Did he tell you how I had Main Events agree that any contract disputes would be arbitrated in Berks County Courts so as to give Kermit the home field advantage. According to Kermit we were the greatest guys in the world. that is until the girl that is now his wife came along. All of the sudden Marshall and I were nothing but money hungry leaches. Two guys that just stood around holding a towel and a stop watch. All of the sudden Kermit doesn't want to do the things in training that made him the success he was. Did he tell you how he would routinely show up 30 minutes to an hr. late for training. how he would routinely quit workouts. Some things in training he would just flat out refuse to do. Kermits hand had nothing to do with him losing that fight. His lack of preparation and character is what failed him. Marshall and I were there to do what we always did which was prepare him to go out and beat a specific opponent. Margarito was not then nor is he now anything special. The game plan to beat Margarito was simple. You can not allow him to back you up. The first person to stand up to him proved that. that person was Mosely. If you back up Margarito and you can punch you will beat him. Marshalls whole game plan for that fight was centered around this simple analogy. Margarito is like an 18 wheeler at the top of a hill. If you allow him to get rolling you will never stop him. If you never allow that to happen the truck can't run you over. He slacked in training, and he paid the price. Just like everything else in his life where he failed he couldn't shoulder the blame himself. He had to turn and point his finger. Go back and research the interviews he did before the fight. He said he was100% ready for that fight, and he believed it at that time because his gf had him brainwashed and he was believe his own press clippings. He was not prepared for a REAL fight. He was not the same guy that beat Teddy Reid and Elio Ortiz. KH was not he same guy that boxed Bernard hopkin to a standstill for 24 rounds of sparring. As for Kermit being improved? Yeah he looked it against David Estrada, Jesse Feliciano, Sergio Martinez, and Margarito the second time. I don't know what you were seeing when you watched those fights. He has regressed as a fighter. He is not the puncher he once was, and he is even weaker mentally then he was before. The fact of the matter is that when he was with us, training hard, and listening he KO'd two Ring Magazine top 10 rate welters. Go and watch how well he BOXED Elio Ortiz, and how he KO'd Teddy Reid. Kermit was also the first guy to take Reid off his feet. How you can call his performances since he left us an improvement is beyond me. I don't even know how to address that. Marshall and I have also have talked with Manny Steward, and what he said to us was that Kermit quit sparring with Andy lee and Jermaine Taylor. He also stated that the wife was a constant problem with her opinions, and constant interruptions. Maybe the reason he didn't tell you any of that is because you are a journalist. You are in no position to challenge the things I have said. I know the REAL Kermit Cintron. You know the facade he shows for the public. Go ask Matt Goldstein about Kermit, or Sid Brumbach. They are just more people that helped Kermit, and were then cast aside with no regard. You also asked why he left us? Maybe he thought he would be better off with someone else? No the reason he left was because Marshall and I had figured him out. His bs no longer worked on us, and neither one of us cared to be associated with the kind of person time revealed him to be. I am happy not to be a part of that frauds career. that was never what made me so angry, and bitter. the anger and resentment comes from the way he took advantage of Marshall and I. From how we fell for his act and poured our heart and souls into his career, and life. Many many times he has took shots at Marshall and I in interviews, on TV, and to the people of Reading. I am not going to allow someone spread lies about me, or blame me for his failures, and then not defend myself. I came from a similar background as Kermit, and like him was fortunate in meeting someone that helped me turn my life around. Someone who gave of himself because he wanted to not because of obligation. I saw Kermit as my chance to return that favor. I thought that given Kermits circumstances he would appreciate the things we did for him. The joke was on us, and I wasted a good portion of my life on a person who turned out to be selfish, insincere, and fake. i would have much rather invested that time in someone who would have appreciated it. To this day the best experiences I have had in boxing were in working with Jeremy Stauffer, and Julian Letterlough. Two guys that had 1/4 of Kermits ability, but a million times the heart and character. I made zero money from them, but they allowed me to enjoy boxing. Which is something i will never do again thanks to Kermit Cintron, and Hasim Rahman.
That is an absolute fact. He said the same thing to Marshall and i in Atlantic City a while back. Shaking his head, and laughing with a look of disgust, and disbelief on his face. The same thing will eventually happen with Ronnie Shields. Who is a trainer I have seen literally turn his back and leave the ring when Dominick Guinn was having difficulty with Travis Kauffman back when travis was still an amateur.
Why don't you go ask Kermit some tough questions. Ask him why he kept diving to the canvas every time a Margarito punch came close to him. Ask him about the crying. ask him why no loss was ever his fault. Ask him why he had so much trouble with lesser fighters like Estrada and Feliciano. Ask him about the big act he put on after the Feliciano fight. Rolling around on the ground like that. LOL What a joke. What about the Martinez fight. Why don't you ask him some tough questions about those situations? Why, because you won't get anymore interviews. The fact of the matter is that everything I have said is an absolute truth. I don't have to defend myself from the truth. nobody does. You only have to defend yourself when you lie.
No sweat. If this idiot just left Marshall and I alone i would have kept all this to myself. Unfortunately he seems to enjoy taking cheap shots at us. I am always getting call from people telling me to read some interview where he is taking a shot at us, or someone calls to tell me something kermit was saying about us to discredit us. everything I have stated is the absolute truth, and I think his in the ring actions make that pretty clear.
Joe- You're getting very defensive while not answering any of my questions and assuming a lot about me. Read every interview I have done with Kermit. I've asked him ALL of those questions. We've talked in depth about all of his fights moreso IMO than any writer has with him. I'm not debating the validity of what you say. I don;t doubt the time you spent with him. As for what I see in him? You conveniently left out the Matthyse fight. A guy went the distance and nearly had Paul Williams out in his previous fight after taking the fight on short notice. He prepared for Kermit and got iced real quick. That was as good as he got with Manny Steward. The improvement I saw was with Shields. Its been a steady progression with the addition of better footwork and defense. There were maybe two exceptions on press row. The majority of us agreed Kermit was fighting a smart fight and beating Williams. We all agreed he had Williams hurt before the end of the fight. As for the Reid and Ortiz fights, I remember thinking at the time, particularly after watching Kermit get hit more than he should against Reid, that they were solid and impressive wins but in no way made him ready for Margarito. Orlando Lora among others showed us that 24-0 with 22 KOs or something similar doesn't always equal ready for prime time. I'm not saying you didn't do a bang up job with Kermit. Or that how he treated you didn't happen. Like you said, I'm a journalist and no matter how well I think I know anyone, from prospects to managers to strength coaches and fighters or promoters, end of the day there is a line of trust that is never crossed. Like I said, I'm just asking questions. Answers would be appreciated.
It's just amazing to me how this guy continues to get chances. It's cliche but I honestly do believe that good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people. It's troubling that you would do something like that, he'd take advantage of it, and people still give this guy opportunities he doesn't deserve. If he's gonna take cheap shots and lie, the truth deserves to come out.
