The real reson Paul fought the way he did last night...

He's going to have to be adaptable because if he fights somebody like Floyd, he'll give him trouble for the first few rounds with his size, presence and punch-output, but after around 3 rounds when Floyd would figure him out and start to time his punches and adapt, PW would be in big trouble if he couldn't adapt himself and bring something different to the table.

 

He already explained all that himself during the post fight interview. You didn't need to make a thread about something that was already thoroughly explained.

It would be difficult to figure out how to avoid 100 punches per round, however I see your logic.

 

It's easy to counter Paul. The problem is Paul doesn't pause and reset very often when countered and typically just continues his assault. You've got 100 chances to counter him each round and each time you do Paul is generally going to be firing back immediately to re-counter whether you tag him flush or not. The only way to limit Paul's output is to make him respect your power which Floyd is certainly not capable of or run like hell and potshot which Floyd is a master of. I'd like to see this fight.

Paul will be a strong legit champion, but he will never be an ATG like many were saying after the Margo fight.

 

I was at the fight. I thought Paul looked just fine. It's a shame it had to end up the way it did. I'm just glad the decision went to Paul, who I had ahead. In my opinion though there should not have been a winner. All in all I paid admission and parking to see half of a good round.

 

That's a good tactic. Glad to see that Paul's trainer wants his fighter to try different things and maybe that's a sign that Williams is gonna fight in higher weights from now on.

The "1.000+ punches per round" tactic works good vs smaller opponents, because although it leaves him open for many counters, welterweights and possibly jr. middleweights don't possess the needed power to bother Paul.

But seeing that there's not much to do @ 147, maybe team Williams want to prepare him for the 160 pounders of the world, where Paul has to be more careful and can't afford to eat that much leather in his fights.

That said, I am not at all sure that Williams can fight this way and be effective.

Williams has success when you stand in font of him, and try to slug it out....or stay in a shell type defense....

Williams will beat most pressure fighters or simple punchers he will face...

Guys that are very mobile with good countering skills, will give him tons of problems....

Williams should stay at 154 imo....I dont think it will be healthy for him to fight at 147, and I'm still skeptical about him at 160....

He should clean out 154 imo...

I think Peterson wanted Paul to fight this way in this fight because they were worried about Cintron's power. Even Margarito paid respect to Cintron's power early. You don't want Paul to just dive in there and run right into a counter right hand. Obviously, Peterson thought Cintron would cooperate and come forward but he didn't made for a boring 3.5 rounds, too bad it ended right when it picked up.

On a side note, I don't think this fight neccessarily says anything about a potential fight with Mayweather(who I would suspect would still win) because I don't think Paul is gonna try to box Mayweather in respect of his counterpunching power.
