I agree with Hopkins as the choice, Calzaghe also had 20 plus defenses. So that alone isn't enuff.

 

Trinidad had a far far better career than Joe and he wasn't middle aged when Hopkins worked him. Hopkin's victories over Pavlik and Tarver are better than any victory Joe has on his resume aside from the questionable decision he won against Hopkins. Joe never bothered to clean up his own back yard let alone face the biggest challenges the world had to offer.

Hopkins. Is there even really a debate?

 

There shouldn't be. Calzaghe is to Hopkins what Terry Norris is to Sugar Ray Leonard. Hopkins, like Leonard, is one of the premier fighters of his era and a bona fide ATG. Calzaghe, like Norris, is a very very good fighter from the same era and undoubtedly HOF class, but while he holds a dubious win over the superior fighter, is nevertheless inferior in pretty much every way.

Hopkins wins this one by a landslide.

 

If I were to consider only their record-setting careers at MW and SMW respectively, there's little to pick between them.

Head to head, I believe Calzaghe takes it at 168 or 175, in 2002 or 2008.

But Bernard's longevity and his superior resume outside of MW (Tarvrer/Winky/Pavlik) gives him a slight edge.

I don't know in what order history will place them, but right now, BHop has a very slight edge.

 

Joe Calzaghe beat more future World Champs, present World Champs and past World Champs-and oh yeah Hopkins-easy call for Calzaghe but in the U.S (of which I am) Hopkins will get the nod here.
