Canzi was often hot and cold but at his best I think he was as good as some guys who regularly are in the Top10 p4p like Charles, Walker, Duran and clearly ahead of Chavez. His record is also better albeit it not by much.

You are right he was KOed later on. Once when he was past it. A TKO is not a KO. :bart

Of course we have to look at the records. We have to look after fighters wo was most similar to the opponent we match them here. This is what gives us the best indication how a fight would go down.
For Canzoneri it´s certainly Lou Ambers.
Who is your pick for Chavez?

Oh the fighter i was talking about was Berg, Canzoneri was only kod once in last fight against a huge puncher Al Bummy Davis.

Really no certain opponent reminds me of Canzoneri as far as how the fight would go i though of Lockridge,Taylor,Laporte but i though Chavez was at his best at 135 and he was the greatest at 140.

I was talking about Berg too.

Canzoneri is leagues above these guys though. Chavez is not league above Amers. Actually, I think Ambers was a better, and at least more proven, lightweight.

Bottom line i, we know that and how Canzoneri can deal with a pressure fighter like Chavez. We don´t know how and if Chavez could deal with Canzoneri.

Well if you were talking about Berg then you should know he was knocked out before he fought Canzoneri you said he was NEVER knocked out.

As far as your argument about Chavez never beating anyone like Ambers well HTH i honestly believe a prime Taylor would beat Ambers, now if were gonna talk resumes yey Ambers is greater but that was a different era. Bottom line so far on your thread you are outnumbered big time as your the only one who picked Canzoneri:yep Maybe that means chances all all the rest of us on this thread so far know something you dont:D

Yes and I admitted I got it wrong. I didn´t look it up and remembered wrong. These things happen.

I´m outnumbered. But I take quality over quantity and the other guys brought no statements but only oppinions. So, it´s 1-1 so far. :deal

I wouldn´t pick Taylor over Ambers. This fight would look like Chaver-Taylor I but Ambers would be busier and land more than Chavez - less down-wearing bodyshots though. He wouldn´t stop Taylor like Chavez did but be ahead on the cards.

Bohdi I think that you could hardly be a judge of quality...

Point Blank Chavez beat a prime Rosario, Camacho, Taylor, tony Lopez, Haughen, Mayweather, T. Ali, and Lockridge....

Chavez has the best chin in the business

Chavez is the best pressure fighter.... and has the best defense on the inside

Chavez attacks relentlessly....look at the camach o fight

Prime Chavez beats Prime Tony by a savage beating

Meldrick taylor would probably beat ambers too, he just goes by thier paper resume. Back in those days, everyone fought 100 times.

Canzoneri fought and beat better fighters. He also lost more often. That´s why the gap isn´t as big as it may seem on first glance but Canzoneri´s resume is better.

He has a very good chin, yep.

Armstrong, Duran are better pressure fighters. Ambers, who was beaten by Canzoneri, is about even with Chavez. Chavez defence is often underrated, you overrate it. It was not the best on the inside. Canzoneri´s was more unorthodox but better. He offers you his chin and than counters you.

So did Lou Ambers and in their primes Canzoneri beat.

He may beat him but he´d lose a series.

No, I go by what I see. Of course resume factors in as well because it gives us an indication how one would do against grart opposition.
Canzoneri beat quite a few atgs, some of them (arguably and really)greater than Chavez. Chavez fought one atg near the level of Canzoneri and got a gift draw against him. I can´t ignore that.

Ok now your making Jokes:-( Do you really think Berg,Chocolate,Ambers were greater than Chavez???:huh Those guys were great but even an old fart like Bert Sugar would rate Chavez above them. Man you were born in the wrong era Bodhi. Im well aware of accomplishments and abilities of past ATG but im not deluisional. Were you a boxing fan when Chavez was in his prime? For a number of years he was rated the best PFP not too many fighters have done that. Canzoneri although considered a great fighter was never considered best PFP, hell he wasnt even considered the best little man there were always a couple guys considered abouve him. Not so with Chavez:nono I remember in the early 90s Chavez was even being compared to SRR :yep Now people have a hard time ranking him with the elite greats. Let me tell you Chavez is an elite great, so many people have short term memory or let the vision of him losing to ODLH,Randall,Whittaker(draw) sway their better judgement. Or maybe some of them just lack better judgement.

You crack me up Bohdi .... the main reason why Chavez did not beat as many greats is because he took it away from Rosario and Taylor.

I think you just started this thread to show off what you think you know and got upset when everyone disagreed with you..

Chavez was great and he would dominate Tony period.

    not impressive

No, I don´t. But Barney Ross is greater than Chavez and Canzoneri is arguable 1-1 against him - both fights were close and many think Canzoneri deserved at least one. And Jimmy McLarnin is arguable greater than Chavez and Canzoneri beat him too.

Definitly. I would give away 10 years of my lifetime to live in Berlin during the Roaring 20s/Weimar Republic time in Berlin with a good amount of money. That would have been my time! Not because of boxing though.

Yes I was and I´m a fan of Chavez now. Actually, he is in my Top10 favourite fighters of all-time, look here at a past post of mine:

    source

    or here:

    source

So, I´m very aware of his resume and his skills.

That doesn´t mean much. Canzoneri fought in a better era with more depth and more great fighters. And p4p lists or rankings did not exist then.

Chavez was an elite fighter and is an atg. No doubt about that.

Pure speculation. Both were very good fighters but nothing more. You can´t judge or rank fighters on speculation.

You should let people think for you who can think actually. I hoped for opinions of serious posters not of fanboys like you.

He was great, I never doubted it. Canzoneri was greater though.

So you edited your "Berg was a bum"? Good for you. If you think so, you obviously don´t know much.

Canzoneiri was great, so was Chavez. I would say Canzonari wins. He had funy style, looks easy to hit, yet no one could do it so easy. He was conseidered great when he fought, but did not get remembered due probably to so many greats being around in his time, and title fights being so frequent, as were top matchs between contenders.
