Toney was a roiding cheater against Ruiz. This performance should not be considered when judging him. :bart

shut up bodhi, you're The Worst poster

bill, rjj still had his feet against ruiz, so he beats toney just like he did in 94...btw don't expect anyone to take you seriously after calling a fighter corny names

McGrain, do you believe Diego Corrales was badly weight-drained for his fight with Floyd Mayweather?

Toney's roid use is way over-blown........... Toney has the WORST physique I have ever seen on a roider.......... Still, Toney naturally is a smaller dude than the solid 230 pound Ruiz................. Toney beat Ruiz with skills; not real strength or power...... In fact, '05 was the last year in which Toney looked in touch with his boxing skills...... Come 2006, Toney has been slipping and struggling........

You believe that Toney was vs Jones. What's the difference between these two scenarios for you? I'm not saying that Corrales was severely weight-drained, I haven't really looked into it I just thought he looked like an anorexic zombie on the night and would like to hear what informed people think. Why are you so definite that Toney was badly drained but are unsure on Chico?

Because i've learned about the background to the Toney-Jones fight but not the Mayweather-Corrales fight.

Toney was weight drained. He could hardly lift his arms at points of the fight. He was also blowing heavily through his gumshield during the early rounds. Toney also gained 19lbs from the weigh-in up until fight night.

''weightdrained'' or not Toney NEVER beats a prime Jones.

Forcing Toney on the front foot has always greatly reduced his effectiveness.

Look at these guys records. Both were active fightes. Toney was fighting every other month and Chico every three months. Toney's weight fluctuated a lot because of his poor genetics, but I dont believe that bull****. These guys were going into career defining fights, Chico with Floyd from the amatuers, he absolutely hated Mayweather and Toney for super middleweight supremacy.
Its almost like a built in excuse these guys used because they knew they were going to lose. Both guys were outclassed in a similar manner, Toney moreso but when guys are active as much as these guys were its hard to use that excuse. I know Toney took an extra couple months off his usual fighting schedule but Corrales didnt, and had stayed around the 130-135 limit. Toney never fought at 68 again but we know the real reason, because he was a lazy pig but personally I dont think the weight deal was any factor in either fight, both guys were stylistically outclassed.

    Amen to this.

A Jones-Toney fight was being talked about in mid 1993 so it's not as if this fight was sprung on him in 94 whilst he was on an eating binge and not ready.Toney was active,he was consistent in his weight and he'd had a stellar 1994 up until he fought Jones. He was prepared but Jones back then was a ****ing bolt of lightning that would've been a nightmare for nearly anyone who ever fought at 160+.

Reasons for thinking Toney wasn't weight drained:

    He was active.
    The fight wasn't a surprise.
    He was "prepared" (?)

Reasons for thinking he was weight drained

The testimony of an independant journalist
The testimony of his manager, estranged.
The testimony of the fighter himself.

PART 2 (Not reasons I would normally include, but given how speculative the above is)

He threatened to shoot his manager when she suggestd he make 168 again
    He never made 168 again
He was fighting at around 180 with a normal camp without weight-making
    He LOOKED apathetic.
He struggled badly with his weight thoughout his career. NATURALLY, there is going to be a "worst time ever".

I'm having trouble balancing the arguments, to be honest.
