That line makes it sound like 160 is the contract language. I couldn't see Martinez agreeing to higher and there is little point for the fight above that. But.... stranger has happened in boxing.
I've been saying for a while now that Pavlik is wasting his time at 160lbs. He needs to add muscles to his frame and get use to 168lbs ASAP !! Only Ricky Hatton could regularly get away from having to lose an insane amount of weight.... It's not healthy at all !!
Watch for the shot of Pav working the heavy bag. He was about 180 pounds in this video. - [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIt5YxQ6GOI[/ame]
the level of talent in smw as opposed to mw is night and day. but, if kelly wants to challenge himself and feels more comfortable at 168 then go for it.
I would imagine he is going to sit down with a list of possible match ups provided by Top Rank when he makes the decision. Reports are that he had more pop when he came to camp for Martinez. He will know if he had the requisite 'snap' I would hope.
well, even if he does feel stronger at smw...that's no guarantee he will succeed, but at least he'd be putting himself in a good position to succeed. there are some talented guys up there but i feel like kelly will be able to compete better than some think.
sheeeeeeit cuz its tough to get a word in on here w/ the pac/pbf/mosely conversation going on. i read a lot of those threads but don't bother posting in them. i like ptp throwing his hat in there too.
His best bet is probably going on the Gandi diet, but that is a tough thing to do for someone that active. Bhop managed it though. Take off the weight and stop the weight training and focus on speed drills instead.
I don't see anything good coming out of trying to stay at 160. I'm certain that the version of Pavlik that tore up Miranda and Taylor would beat Martinez up even worse. However, I do not think that version exists anymore. KP looked like **** against Sergio even when he was winning rounds. Furthermore, after 8 rounds he was huffing and puffing like a damn steam engine. I honestly would not mind seeing Pav move to 175. But take his time about who he fights. Use 2-3 fights to get acclimated, and then go from there.
Its a lose lose to rematch. If he wins then so what he cant make the weight healthly so he is moving up anyways. Not to mention if he cant make the weight he is just going to be weak and im sure Martinez will just get more acclimated to the weight. I cant see them pulling this move.
