A raised cap wouldn't stop the Storm from cheating. The Storm went to drastic lengths to cheat the system, and IMO were always going to look for that extra edge. They still would have cheated even if there were cap exemptions.

The only thing cap exemptions will do is stop the thinning of talent. The exodus of talent is a worry, and when the new tv deal comes in, it's imperative that the NRL gives larger grants to clubs and then raises the cap and allows more exemptions.

do what the A-League does is my thoery.

    2 MARQUEE players

Keep the Cap at 4.5 million but 2 players you can sign for or pay for how ever the **** you want.

And to answer the guy about some clubs struggling to pay bills and afford the Cap now is because.

David Gallop and his idiot mates got the worst deal from TV ever seen.

Then they dont put enough back to the clubs from money raised from Origin etc etc.

The next deal the Clubs need to get this money and it should be up to the NRL board to see how the clubs will see out the 3 or 5 years of there money.

So if you take the 2 biggest wages from each club and then each team can easily make the Salary Cap by freeing up room plus the stars of the game stay.

    So
take these wages of the 4.5 million and you could get some talent.

**** i forgot the Tigers well you know who there two best are
    Marshall and Farrah.

But my point is you take away two players wages the two biggest wages from every teams salary Cap and you free up

    approx anywhere from
    1.1 million to 2 million.
Imagine you could have way better squads in the NRL and it would be the best League in the World.

You could poach some Super League players from England.

Yep. You guys are looking pretty solid in defence now, though I'm sure Bennett would find a way to tighten up his defence.

For sure...the cap is a huge problem getting Mark back to the dragons or any side as hes looking at mega bucks each year......

    SMH today....

A major problem for the Dragons' hopes of luring Gasnier back is that under NRL salary cap rules his value would be determined by multiplying the amount he is paid for each match by the number of games he played for Stade Francais last season.
However, St George Illawarra chief executive Peter Doust indicated that Gasnier could be offered a small contract for this season and larger payments over the next two years to fit him in under the salary cap.
''Mark is obviously looking at his next career move, having made some significant ones in recent times,'' Doust said. ''But in saying that the salary cap can be managed and in complying with the regulations in the NRL we have been in contact with them as well so we are pretty positive we can come up with a plan over a couple of years, maybe three years, that can see him back at the Dragons as soon as possible.''
Despite Gasnier's departure, Doust has remained in touch with him and attended his wedding last year. ''As I understand it Mark has a firm interest in returning to play rugby league,'' Doust said. ''I think his passion is rugby league, his involvement in the game and how he sees the game these days are his priorities going forward so he is keen to come back.
''We have had some discussions with his management for some months now … and knowing his interest we are doing what we can to see if we can make it all work because we believe the Dragons is his priority.''
Dragons coach Wayne Bennett refused to comment on the Gasnier situation ahead of the club finalising an agreement with the player, but sources close to him say he was excited about the prospect of coaching the star centre.
