Well that is the point of interval training and why it works. Sprinting burns more calories per mile and more calories per minute than jogging but it cant be maintained. Too many "sports scientists" focus on the former and ignore the latter. Sure I would love to be able to sprint sprint sprint but I know I cant do that. I cant sustain it. No one can.

How many 100 yard sprints can you run with minimal rest in between before you gas? 20 would be a good number for anyone but that is only just over a mile's worth of running. In the grand scheme that isn't much.

You are on the right path with interval training. Dont get sucked up into people trying to sell you on 4 minute workouts though.

Despite all the arguing, everyone agrees that if your goal is general fitness; then you'll want to be well-rested and have the necessary fuel in your body to complete your workout - no matter what the time of day is. When I was more active I used to follow a workout where I had to run on the flat land, turn right or left while sprinting up a hill, walk down the hill, and repeat the process. It was non-stop and it was not timed for rounds. I'm unsure of the time, but it was longer than a full amateur fight.

Seriously?! lol EVERYONE's metabolism is different! And NO you cant calculate this just based off numbers. Even the size and shape of your body affects your metabolism. so does the way you eat and sleep, and your genetics. Thats why we have special equipment to test individual athletes, and not some formula! Don't argue bro, i'm a personal trainer and i have to know stuff like this. Lol it's people like you that give me a job :good

I find it difficult to run where I live. I live on a street just off a very busy A-road, which is also a big street in terms of bars, pubs, cafés etc. so I can't run between like 6am and 11pm because it's just too busy most of the time. I don't like running in front of lots of people.

However, I don't like running any earlier than 6, partly because of the amount of scumbags that are about at that time.

Any of yous in a similar situation?

You sir, are an idiot. So Lance armstrong working so hard and so perfectly that his mitchondria is DOUBLE the average person.. I'm sure it's safe to say he's not the only seasoned athlete in the world. So it'd be safe to say that their are others that are in the same shape. And even the statement "average" person infers that NOONE has the same metabolism you tool. STFU, you have no clue what the hell your talking about

I agree with this actually. Differences in metabolism are very subtle.

No **** its the same process numb nutz, what anyone has been saying the whole time is that everyone's metabolism is different, not that its a different process. So if your looking at a broad spectrum, yes, everyones is the same process. But noones metabolic rate is the same, and every single fact i have spit out at you affects and proves my point. so stop talking

Ive tried the running on an empty stomach thing, its lame. I didnt have much energy. I do it around 8 to 9 am but i dont work until later. If I was working an 8-5 job then I would rather do it in the evening than super early in the morning

Lame? It has worked for so many world champions in the past though? You need to work on your cardio clearly if you cannot run 5-6 miles first thing in the morning because of no 'energy'.
