I have stated on several occasions that Arguello's performances at 126 post-Olivares showed a dramatic improvement in his boxing. I just do not agree that he was at his peak at that weight.

    No Problem.

He knockouts an ATG, in a good performance. It was a war and in the mid rounds it is vintage Arguello. And you think he was green? Personally I think he was abit pre-prime but still awesome.

I can agree with that, mostly.

I think his punc variety and accuracy have always been good.

Kobayashi was very good, and Arguello clinically takes him apart, not much to argue against.

I disagree with this. He was not totally out-manuevered it was a close fight and Fernandez came in with a gameplan and stuck to it for ten rounds. Even then Arguello was having some sucess and you get the sense 5 more rounds and it is Arguellos, although that meands nothing when judging a fight. I feel over ten rounds Fernandez could be a bogeyman for a lot of fighters.

I think he improved his technical skills over that whole period, but he was very near his peak.

I think he learned not to take anyone for granted.

Indeed, but you have to remember Olivares is one of the best offensive fighters that has ever lived, you are going to get hit from him.

Again not totally I had it 5-5 on rounds.

Again, over ten rounds Fernandez is hell. Also Duran is an awesome fighter so no shame someone losing to Fernandez. I think Fernandez to Arguello is like Jimmy Warnock to Benny Lynch

Fair enough. I still think Olivares took a fair bit of punishment and remember he was a natural Bantamweight and never considered particualry tough there, he was vulnerable.

Again, Olivares is one of the best offensive fighters in the world. It would be like saying Azumah Nelson aint accurate judging from his fight with Whittaker.

    Was thinking that.

Then why not focus on them, we are focussing on whether he primed at 126.

    Dramatic?

Nah...there were improvements overall but they were fairly subtle and slight.

    Very good.

A physical beast with clearly very solid technical ability and fundamentals...along with a sturdy chin and very good power, he nearly got Marcel out of there.

I do think he made improvements after this bout...which comes with experience at the level he was now fighting at.
I think the main things I saw him do better in the Olivares fight and beyond was his pacing, body attack and punch selection...and probably he got a bit better defensively after the Olivares bout.
Technically and stylistically I didnt see major changes...more tactical things and just a slight improvement on his ringcraft overall.
I do think he peaked at 130...but many argue he had more physical advantages at 126 and any improvements technically were marginal in comparison..I can sorta dig that the more I think about it.

Marcel looked brilliant in that fight for long stretches...but as I said before Arguello nearly got him out of there and really controlled the middle rounds.

I agree with all of the bold.

I think at 130lbs he was still a physical beast and had slightly improved technical skills.
