    BINGO, LOU STILLMAN it was...
Owner of the world famous Stillmans Gym.I must have been there 100 times,as a youngster and Stillman ran a tight ship...He would sit on a high chair by the two rings announcing the boxers, spitting on the floor, and screaming at the famous fighters, laced with insults...These famous fighters would never talk back to Stillman at all it seemed
I would notice a bulge under his jacket where he packed a gun for protection...He was once in law enforcement, and he knew how to intimidate...I saw hundreds of the best fighters of the 1940s at Stillman's Gym, rubbing elbows with them...It was heaven to me until Stillman closed the gym...
Yes Lou Stillman was a tough hombre!

When you said that he packed he heat, his was the first name that sprung to mind. Infamous for carrying a gun in fairly plain sight or so ive read. Tough as old boots

sugarsean, Lou Stillman was NOT a trainer...He just owned the most famous gym of alltimes...But I saw the best trainers in history with the best boxers, honing their skills...b.b.

I have heard that Lou Stillman treated Willie Pep differentlybthan the other fighters...He also liked the toughest young fighter I ever saw ,Rocky Graziano...As I posted before he appeared to be a mean SOB...I would just sit there and soak it all in..Heaven to me...

If Stillman said TODAY what he said THEN to black fighters -- .38 or not -- he'da been dead meat.

In fairness to Lou, he's was an equal-opportunity abuser: Every ethnic got an epithet.
