Ike Ibeabuchi (1997-98) vs Riddick Bowe (1992-93) - who was better and who would win?

Both men had short primes for different reasons. Bowe because he lost interest in hard training when he tasted the huge money and fame. Ibeabuchi was always in impeccable shape but succumbed to mental illness. Did the war with Tua where Ike stood in the pocket with the Samoan strongman give him irrepairable brain damage? He took Tua's punches better than anyone I had seen before or after.

The way Ike dismantled Chris Byrd was positively sublime. No one except Wladimir Klitschko ever walked through Byrd like this. And Byrd was in his prime when Ibeabuchi accomplished this. Not a shell of his former self during the much later Klitschko beatdown.

Bowe looked like someone who would dominate for a LONG time after his sensational win against the always gritty Real Deal in 1992. His early 1993 of Dynamite Dokes was impressive also.

Who would have won between these two warriors both in their respective primes?

When it came time to fight, i always though ike looked focused & deadly......big clash of the titans here......Bowe was tip top in his prime though so i'm going on punching alone :bbb

Ike. Bowe got hit too much, and Ike wouldn't stop throwing. Picture Golota without the consistent nad shots.

LOL @ at you noobs.......................he barely got by via gift decision against the limited one trick pony Tua, was clowned and behind on points against featherfist Byrd who was so comfortable with the Pres that he played cute on the ropes and got caught....

Prime for prime with no training excuses from both ( Ibeabuchi had very erratic and inconsistant training habits) Bowe hands his ass on a plater every time.

Bowe become unglued AFTER he won the belts against a ATG, good ol' Ibeabuchi was already a major loose cannon before the Byrd fight and with his genuine certified scrambled brain would never ever made it to the top with his upstairs marbles intakt....../ thread.

You are probably right on some of your points. However, I do recall reading that Ibeabuchi's decline into insanity only started to occur after his bout with Tua. Incidently, he has earned two associates degrees while being incarcerated.

    Been here 10 years, noob.

Umm, Byrd got ko'd in the 5th, after 4 complete rounds, it wasn't like he some unsurmountable lead, and he didn't win all of the first 4.

The Tua fight was close, granted, but Ike won. It wasn't like he got clobbered like Bowe did in BOTH fights against Golota.

I would go with Ike. Ike could hit and throw punches all night. Bowe's lack of defense would cost him.

Ike fought Tua tooth and nail in a slugfest on Tua's best night ever. Tua was never the same after the fight. It was extremely close and could have gone either way. Ike showed a tremendous skill set that night including an exceptional chin, an asset Bowe lacked. That being said we did not see enough of Ike o say he beats the best Bowe (Holyfield 1) but he sure crushes any other Bowe we have seen.

Yeah this is pretty funny everyone picking Ibeabuchi. He really never proved himself to be on he level of Bowe at his best, plus he was having trouble with good boxers in the gym. Ike was on his way, but not even close to Bowe yet. Bowe by decapitation.

I'm not sold on Ike Ibeabuchi. Riddick Bowe on the other hand from 1992-1995 was about as good as anyone could be. I'd put my money on Bowe.

Ike did kind of remind me of a bigger version of Holy, but he didnt have the ring smarts or savvy of Holyfield. Ike was young and still inexperienced. He was blasting these guys out of raw ability, but Bowe would have brought a lot more to the table.
