Larry Merchant ain't racist. He likes some black fighters and dislikes others. Couldn't be less racist than that. However, some idiots automatically presume that if you criticize a black fighter, or a black person in general, and for whatever reason, you must be racist.
Larry Merchant doesn't hate Floyd Mayweather Jr - Larry Merchant just loves the sport of boxing. And for a long time Floyd Mayweather, the self proclaimed P4P #1 ATG 'always and forever', wasn't doing **** for boxing. And when the best man doesn't do anything for his sport, when he doesn't seek the best challenges in his sport in order to gain attention for his sport, when he doesn't benefit it, it's only normal that the true fans of the sport, like Larry Merchant, will not like him anymore. And during that time Larry Merchant criticized Mayweather exactly for that. For a long time Mayweather only thought about his wallet and not about the sport. It's been better lately.

I think that it was Winky Wright and Mayweather who started publicly dissing HBO's treatment of black fighters. Personally, I don't think that he's racist at all. He just likes guys who come to fight.
No, I wouldn't. After seeing how Mexicans can still support Margarito, or how fanatical some filipinos get by supporting their countrymen. Much worse things than someone wishing a white guy would beat a black fighter.
