I think stumbling backwards without throwing punches and being floored a couple of times, making no effort to fight back, then having your corner intercede to stop you being decapitated comes under the definition of beat. BTW.Purrity was stopped on his feet by Vitali with a cut eye rd 11 was he beat? Stop with the spin .atsch
The knockdown isn't something I would dwell on too much because Arreola took harder flusher punches against McCline, Vitali, Adamek, and even in the first round of the Walker fight(who is a big puncher and landed a great deal the 100+ he threw in those 3 minutes); guy has proven to be pretty sturdy and capable of taking vicious punishment. The knockdown against Walker wasn't that convincing, and looked more like a temporary loss of balance and knee that angered him more than put him on ***** street. Surely it could happen again, just not something I would bet on happening too often.
Spin? Purrity didnt outclass Wlad, he was getting his head handed to him until Wlad mentally fell apart and gassed out. Its not like Purrity ever beat anyone because of his great boxing ability. Purrity was used as a gatekeeper because of his tremendous chin and ability to push up and coming fighters to the next level of competition. He basically had a championship heart and chin but journeyman skills. atsch
What were the scores when the fight was stopped?? That should answer your question. The fight was stopped in the 11th.
You don't take a knee unless you are hurt, and he admitted he was hurt after the fight. Walker is a journeyman, if he can be hurt by Walker, he be hurt and stopped by a Tommy Morrison...which is the overall point.
Foreman wasn't shot...shot fighters don't win World Titles. Besides, Arreola is about on this level...I really don't rate him at all. He's gave me no reason too either. His best win is against a McCline that didn't show up, and he comes in disgustingly overweight every time out. He is a not a great fighter....and can very much expect to be shut down by even a Tommy Morrison.
Same goes for Morrison who was in fact stopped by a journeyman, but I dont think anyone is ruling out Morrisons punching power as a big factor, just that the odds of Morrison gassing and falling apart against a busy fighter like Arreola are also highly probable, and in my opinion more likely.
Flimsy logic, nobody beating Bentt embarressed Morrison with three knockdowns that started with an ugly desperate arm punch. Arreola could do that!!!!! Arreola TKO1!!! :happy Of course Morrison could theoretically score a knockdown or perhaps a knockout, but hardly on the sole basis Arreola took a knee once upon a time.
I got your point LeftHook....and it's not out of the realms of possibility that the overweight Arreola could win...but I give the benefit of the doubt with Morrison, who has the power to stop the fight at any point and who actually beat some good fighters....as opposed to none. :good
You mean this fight?:yep One thing is Arreola can put punches together just like Bentt, which is the key to nailing a hooker like Morrison who throws wide punches. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sit01F0zPc0[/ame]
Morrison was humiliated by Bentt but keep in mind that he went into the fight expecting a first round knockout, not to get knocked out in the first himself. Bentt had been fairly average as a pro and was brought in there to lose. Morrison fought better punchers than that and never lost as badly. Arreola has more of a reputation than Bentt and I'm sure Morrison would be more cautious against Arreola than he was against Bentt.
That was the point, just as Arreola has proved he could stay on his feet against better punchers than Walker. I find it to be shallow to present either example on their own merit as indisputable evidence that either fighter is walking into a slaughterhouse. I just find it amusing that despite walking into sustained punishment from Adamek, McCline, Walker, and Vitali, Arreola will surely be hurt and knocked down by Morrison because he went to his knee once...meanwhile Morrison gets a pass for much worse offenses.
I don't think anyone is giving Morrison a pass though. It has been well-established that he had a vulnerable chin. Other than that he has most of the advantages over Arreola. Arreola's ability to take a punch is being over-estimated in my opinion. His career is far from over and I wouldn't be surprised to see him ending it with quite a few stoppage losses, considering how much punishment he takes. Morrison would be the hardest puncher he ever faced in my opinion. Vitali hasn't shown any one punch knockout power since his comeback.
