I spoke to Paul Williams briefly about the Cintron incident and making 147lbs.

Fingers crossed it will happen. A win against Williams would be ultimate way to bow out and put himself down with the Ali's, Leanords, and Robinsons of the sport.

 

It's not his nature, and I wish trainers would stop trying to make him something he's not. Diego was long and lean too, but it wasn't in his nature to sit on the outside and box. He wanted to get inside and bang with you and that was where his genius was, he was VERY good at it. PW isn't an outside, long range fighter. He's a scrapper, he wants to throw punches, take punches, and fight it out. Just let the man do his thing.

Trying to make fighters something they're not is always a recipe for disaster.

 

They may actually go after Shane this time, since it seems Shane has very few other options at this point.


I asked Peterson about Cotto and he laughed in my ****in face. He says Bob Arum is just not gonna let that happen.

If he can make 147 so easily then he should be fighting there. Mayweather and Pacquiao aren't going to just give him a fight when there is no pressure on them to fight Williams. Williams is not a draw and he doesn't fight in their division.

Great post. I really like Williams and hope he goes a long way. I honestly can't think of one fight of his I didn't enjoy or one single guy I would root for against him.

 

At the time he left 147, he was trying desperatley to fight Cotto, Margarito, or Shane, but Cotto decided Clottey was more worthy :? and Shane decided to fight Margarito. And margo took that fight for less money.

So he fought Kolle to get his feet wet, Phillips to get a belt, and Winky to get some notoriety. But these guys know damn well Paul can fight at 147 easily. They just choose to use the higher weighted fights as an excuse.

I actually think he's a bit less sluggish at 147. He may look thin as a rail, but it seems to fit him better in my opinion.
